D section rubber fender
« on: January 31, 2017, 08:48:51 am »

Hi Guys,

I need some help with this D fender for my Tamar lifeboat.

Looking at the picture, the rear of the fender is not flat. This is making it very difficult to attached it to the boat and get the edges tight against the hull.

I tried ordering a replacement from Cornwall Models, they accepted the order but was actually out of stock, hmm.

1/ is this D section typical?

2/ where can I get a D section with a flat back?
CAP Maquettes Fittings: D Section Fenders 10mm x 5mm

thanks
Dave

Go to your local tyre place(that cut truck tyres) and ask them, they can cut D section rubber out of the tyre for you(normally don't cost nothing)

I went on to ebay and found what I wanted.   It had a flat back and was self adhesive.   I have used it on several of my boats with no problems.   I just typed in `D section rubber strip` and presto!   Pete

Hi Dave,

All the fendering on my Police Boat, Sept-Nov 2014 Model Boats was from:-
Seals+Direct, they were brilliant and very helpful....ask for a current catalogue.

www.sealsplusdirect.co.uk   Tel:- 0845 226 3345.

They specialise in Neoprene and Rubber seals and edgings from tiny to the full size ship as well as classic cars, caravans and so on.  Very good value and service too.

Hope this helps....

Ron.

Dave, I agree with Ron.  Seals+direct have the lot.
You need 1/2 round expanded neoprene (stuck an inch at a time with superglue - better than the double sided tape).

Mine's been on my Club 500, lifeboat and boat stands for 3 years now and shows no signs of wear.
Cheers

The fendering for the Tamar is nothing like a D section really. Its flat at the back of course then has flatish sides leading to a smaller radius at the apex.
You cannot buy scale fendering of the shelf from anyone other than Speedline. I had a special tool made for the Tamar's fendering (1/12th)  which is the same section as the Severn and I had that done in 1/16th scale too.
You can buy these off me of course.
Sorry for the delay in not responding to earlier emails but as you probably know I have been in and out of hospitals since September and work has been out of the question. However I am back at it now so please email me at speedlinemodels@googlemail.com or call me on 01455 637658. I have both sizes in stock and I will happily send you a sample.

Hi Adrian,

Explains why I didn't get reply to email.

I've already stuck the inferior stuff on now.

Glad you better.
