Bob, at the risk of hijacking your thread, I found something in my late father's effects that may be of interest to you. The photo of a Castle Line ship triggered my memory of a permit issued to my father on 7th February 1942 to board Capetown Castle in the Port of Sydney. Dad worked for the Shell company of Australia from the time he left school, aged 15, in 1926, until he retired over 45 years later. At the time of this permit he was Chief Shipping Clerk in Sydney, and had to organise bunkering for ships in port. I notice, at the bottom of the permit a line reading, "To be surrendered at the gangway", obviously he didn't
