Present from the government
« on: February 28, 2017, 11:06:59 pm »

Today I got notification that my statutory OAP pension was going up with its annual increment, and so I decided that for a change  I was going to splash out and treat myself.

I have always wanted a classic car, and a favorite of mine is the classic old MG TF of 1955 vintage. And so........I went out and bought myself one in beautiful tartan red. The condition is exceptional but after having a drive of her, I found her a real hand full at my age.

If anyone would like to have a look at it, I'll post a couple of pictures of it.

You are lucky to get an increase.  :embarrassed:
Our UK pensions (which the Australian government insisted we apply for  >:-o ) have not changed in nearly 20 years.
We receive them every December, about $160 last year.   Despite telling them several times the government still think we get it every 2 weeks and alter our Oz pensions, down at the moment, in line with the exchange rate which they calculate is higher than the actual rate.  >>:-(

If you were only talking about using the raise to get your car, you were very lucky to get even that one.

Was this wise?  Another month or two the Government will be wanting it back so they can pay the pensions of 16 year olds who are busy spending money not saving it the way we did.

I've got the 'modern' MG TF, year 2002. Its in British Racing Green with 30,000miles on the clock, you can have it for free, its not turned a wheel the last three years.

All you need to do is pick it up from my Spanish address  %)

Now tell me the bad news Brian.......what's wrong with it, and does one need a trailer to collect........head gasket, perhaps, lol. Actually always fancied one of them. drove an F on a test drive when they first came out as an "N" or "P" plate, cant remember.

Nope seriously, it was purchased by the original owner under the Rover employees purchasing scheme. Until it was sold on it was always serviced by a main dealer, the head gasket was replaced as a recall at the factory (rover employee {-) ) Its run like a dream since I had it, I brought it to Spain with us expecting to use it in the lovely weather. Winter its as cold as the UK, Summer it is so hot you cannot drive with the top down or you fry, leaving just the spring and autumn. Which would be fine, except I've had a 'mare of a time trying to register it onto the Spanish system. So its sat outside the house and there it will stay until they will let me do it - if ever! Odd really cos we did our Picasso with relatively no trouble at all.

Thought I'd resurrect this.....

Got up today and although the weather has been scorchingly hot recently (think sit in front of a blast furnace hot!) Yesterday the wind picked up and turned into a howler during the night and is still at it now.

So this is what is left of my car cover over the MG {:-{ seems I'll be having to go out and buy another one.

You fed it too much while it was in storage and it split it's coat. I hope it doesn't cost you too much to replace it  {:-{

With all of the inclement hot windy weather and unsealed roads & paddocks & dust, how do you keep your pool water in such pristine cleanliness?   %)

Worst mistake I made was bringing it over from the UK mate. You think yeah! topless car great, it'll be fun. The reality is that you can only use it in the spring or the autumn, winter is way too cold here in the mountains and from June to October way too hot to have the roof down, you need a car with aircon for the summer without a doubt. The aircon on the Picasso packed up 3 years ago and I can't get a new compressor anywhere ( due to this model configuration) it is just nasty to have to drive it in the summer.
