My mate was the skipper of a Townsend

ferry running between Felixstowe and Zeebrugge, he rang me on the evening of 6 March 1987 to tell me he wasn't on

That was a very sad loss of life that should never have happened. Didn't they refloat the ship and call it another name?

a family friend was an engineer on that ship, he should have been on shift that day, but had swapped - he is still suffering as if he had been on shift it would have been his responsibility to shut the bow doors.

A very sad day indeed.
may god continue to look over those pour souls and their families.
Please let this post remain as a remembrance of the sad loss and be treated with respect and not a recrimination of what should or shouldn't have happened on that day.
