« on: March 11, 2017, 06:39:40 pm »

After buying old rc boats and bringing them back to there glory i'm now buying a narrowboat hull and starting from scratch  %%

i have an idea of what electrics to buy but would like to know what you would recommend please, motors, esc units, etc etc
one question i would like to ask is should i fit a bow thruster as the hull is 78inch long ?

My thoughts.
If you are going to get into spots that are narrower than your turning circle, away from you, a bow thruster (although not scale) would help you. But will you have enough draft? Even with a flat bottom, you could do some clever piping, but it would complicate things.
If the tight narrows are closer to you, a three point turn is doable as you can see what you are doing. Or you can pretend to be a man and horse and just swing her around with a pole.

I would certainly put a thruster on a narrow boat of that length, mine is only 40" but a windscreen washer pump in bow certainly makes it a lot more fun on the lake.

Where would you sail a narrowboat? I've always thought they look a bit odd/out of place in open water - I suppose I'm used to seeing them trapped in canals.
