I see you are approaching the worst part, the transition from slab side to compound curves as the planking nears the nose - isn't that fun to do! %% :}

It is an attractive shaped hull in a workmanlike way. The planking is finishing up very neatly Brian  :-))

Funny to see people building a wooden hull only to make a plug for a fiberglas hull... ok2

What else would use to do that. A fiberglass hull can with stand the bumps and grinds that they get over the years. A wood hull still has to get fiberglass on the outside to help protect the hull and get a smooth finish. Just my thoughts on this.

This is how I did my current build. Builders foam between the frames, cut and sanded to shape then a thin coat of plaster of paris over the whole thing before sealing and painting. But the end result is the same, its a plug to take the grp mould from, so it really doesn't matter how you get there missy, as long as the end result is what is desired.  :}

I understand the reason for the puzzled statement (as do those in the know), it always appeared to be a double exercise, but in retrospect, for a one off it seems strange, i.e. the love and attention some go to build the plug seems a waste and why not build the boat from that, but if its for a GRP, that's going to have a lot of strenuous work done to it then its worth while, but how many 'plugs' are out there that could find a commercial market, negative plug for the x boxes etc could still be used for other modellers if the owner is so inclined to pass it on.

I am somewhat in agreement warspite. I could have completed my hull a lot quicker if I had done a plank on frame and possibly skinned the outside with grp. However I wanted maximum space internally so I didn't want the timberwork getting in the way. I was contacted by 3 people wanting a grp hull produced from the mould from my plug. I daresay I could have from those three made enough to cover all my materials, however with a minimum courier charge of 60€ from Spain to Europe/UK negated that making it a non starter.

This XBow being made in the UK and only having UK courier charges may be a different matter, at the end of the day it comes down to the builder - do they want the extra hassle of producing more than one hull?

My Cornelia Marie took some serious beatings like crashed into rocks, docks, other boats, running full speed on sand to save her during windy weather ....
Never had more than a few scratches in the color which I could redo in minutes .... and I neved used any fiberglass and other nasty things on the hull. 100% water and stormproof... just my 2p opinion

Well thats a few different views on why make a plug, I personally like the idea of having a mould. I think there are quite a few modellers pleased i made the Maltby plug LOL

It depends on how people want to trade and interact with the public. For some, their capacity is limited enough that to have a website could make things impossible for them especially in that phase between earning enough from doing it to make ends meet whilst having a real job (Or being mostly retired) and making enough to live off of.

A client of mine weather regular grumbles about not having pictures on his web site but says that to have them would make his workload to great to handle in his current life. Also some people hate the internet and would prefer to talk to people.

It has to be said that clicking the mouse a few times is easier than picking the phone up, or writing an order out, but we have the choice as customers to decide wether we want to click or call. The company's have already made their decision.

Hi Kim she is 1:50th the reason I decided on this scale is I like the way my Maersk Leader sails. She is going to be 7 inches longer and an inch wider, plus a nice size for detail.

Hi Brian,
Maersk leader at 1:50 ... now your just showing off ... and who would blame you lol

If it helps speed things along further on in the build we have all the superstructures etc. Cad Drawn and are easily re-scaled.
I know your more than capable but just to let you know.

Kim
