That’s the aim Phil. At least it’s a simple paint scheme this time!

I am really enjoying the excellent progress you both have made with this ship  :-))

Hi Ian

The ship’s boats are 1/48 scale items from Quaycraft via Model Dockyard of Cornwall. Still need to locate a 30ft Cutter- might have to be scratch built.

Hi Bob

Yes I’m the dockyard painter! ;)

Hi everyone

Just got back from sunny Akrotiri in time to do some painting. Took forever to get back- 8 hours delay!
Anyway here is this morning’s work with the paint.

Stunning work chaps. Will the decks be painted a darker colour or left in the hull colour?

Hi Kevin

Thanks for the links, every little picture helps! :-))

Hi Ian

The deck will be is painted a darker grey, just finished it today. The paint certainly changes the model again and we are looking forward to adding the next layer of detail.

True. The destroyer looks much more complete in her scheme now. The deck is a near future job to do on it.

A bit more work done today. Stanchions are starting to be put in place, prop and shaft fitted, and the rudder permanently attached.

Lovely detail work Nick.  Love the finished rudder.  Precision acrylic funnel too.
Can't wait to see her close up   :-))

Again...this imgbb software is great..................

%) however it does also suggest :o that the rudder wing is secured to the rudder post by 1 pin only

Could this be the case?

Hi Derek

You are quite right- there is only one pin, if there were three then we could potentially have to replace three hinges if we need to remove the rudder- this way we will only destroy one.

Today- bow sprit detailing, galley vents, seaman’s head intake and vents, and the flag staff.

Hi everyone

After a little break in the build Steve has started with the ship’s boats davits. These are made from 3mm diameter brass rod and bent to shape using a pipe bender from a Victor Bomber brake line kit!
Only six more to make!

Hi everyone

A bit slow on the updates I know but Dad has been busy in the mean time whilst I'm (ahem) elsewhere occupied in the Eastern Med!
Another test float with the hull and superstructure painted to ensure that the waterline is correct. In the Brown's Shipyard, well, shed, he has been finishing off the davit supports (pictures hopefully coming soon via the amazing interweb!), he is still working out the funnel top and drilling out the broken stanchion which broke a few weeks ago!
Another progress report hopefully in the next few days... :-))

A bit later than expected but a lot more progressed than thought. The funnel top and bottom complete from carved wood, the ladder companionways in position and the bow and stern Jack staff soldered together.
And poor old Jack Tarr has passed out due to the heat!
