Pacific Cruise
« on: May 21, 2017, 08:08:10 am »

On Friday, my wife and I embarked on a 75 day cruise called the Circle Pacific aboard Golden Princess. We left from Sydney and are currently in Brisbane but, as I type, the Captain is announcing our imminent departure. Our next port of call is Rabaul, in Papua New Guinea. The ship's stern looks a bit like a supermarket trolley, but the "handle" is actually a night club in the evening, and a viewing place during the day.

We've only been on board 2 nights, but have made some new friends already. The crew a wonderful, as is the food and our accommodation. I'm looking forward to the rest of the voyage, and will post some more photos as and when the opportunity arises.

We are in Rabaul, a beautiful island that was devastated by an eruption in 1994, and has struggled to return to its former beauty. There is evidence of the disaster everywhere, but the people are wonderful, welcoming and friendly. There are still some lovely places on the island, and it's well worth a visit. We leave in a couple of hours for the 4 day voyage to Manila.

Sounds like a wonderful trip. Rabaul was quite the Japanese bastion during WW2. Do any traces remain or are thy long gone and buried?

What? 75 day cruise! They pay those Aussie moderators well!
There's going to be a feast of photos on this thread by the end of it.
Looking forward to seeing plenty more.

Well Jim....if your friend Neil returned to tell the tail/tale %)...it is obvious he does not suffer from

ákronaφόβοςphóbos

So we do hope that Peter is on a lower deck...... just above the bilge & near the waterline..... {-) & not too far to fall

If God wanted me to stand on the bridge deck of that floating Palace Box, he would have given me wings at birth....Derek  ok2
