Atlantic 75
« on: August 26, 2007, 08:48:00 pm »

Next project started. no joy with the Tamar, beyond me. But the plans turned up for the Atlantic 75. Wanted to do it bigger than 1/12, so i would find ir easier to get the outboards to work,( thats the plan). Thought i was stufffed yet again, couldnt find any 54mm pipe, but a wonderfull chap known as Funtimefrankie has come up with the goods. cheers mate.
so trip to me local model shop to get some ideas on how to turn the rotation through 90 degrees. came up with bevel gears from a helicopter. result. spent the day chopping up fibre board.
Can any help with photos of the 75, looked at some on 24-7, helpfull but cant make out the shape of the outboards. got thplan but no real help with shape of the bits. mine is square at the moment.
i,m on a roll now so i,m sure once again someone can help

Why not do the Atlantic 85 instead ? 8)
The engines are bigger, so more room for the motors/gears etc. ;)

As long as the scale is less than 12 inches to the Foot then as far as I am concerned it's a model  ;).

has any one one scratch built either the 21 or 75?
if so how the hell did you mark out the tubes?
just started drawing out the elevations and  have realized that it is going to be more fun than i realized.
why do i do this to myself?

I cheated and took an Action Man boat (first picture) , stripped it down (second picture), just used the bottom hull and pipe insulation for the tubes (third picture), added a false deck and glued the pipe insulation on top (fourth and fifth pictures), after painting I had a representation of the current RNLI inshore Lifeboat (picture six).  ;)

Best of luck!!!!   Mike

Mike,

What did you paint the pipe insulation with?

I used it for my USCG launch and found that whatever I used came off fairly easily. I ended up cleaning the insulation with thinners, then giving it a light sand, then a coat of etch primer, then several coats of Plasticote and the finish is still very tender.

Ordinary Dulux water-based paint from the colour mixer range and then water based satin varnish on top. Not managed to flake off the paint yet (fingers crossed)!!!!!! It seems to flex with the insulation. ;)
