Ok i might have been living in the dark ages as this may be comon knowledge to you smokie lads, but here goes.
The other day our lass handed me her hair dryer (the one with a rotating brush) as it was not working properly and had a funny smell to it, so been the good husband i took it off to the workshop for closer examination.
Now i have already stripped one of these down and repaired it, it worked for about 6 months (fan motor burned out) and then totaly died so i had an idea what was wrong with this one, alas no this time it was the board which had skid marks where there should have been cob's. So the bad news broken to the wife a replacement was ordered and i was given the ok to salvage anything from the remains.
This time the fan motor was in good order and it was then i noticed a discrete bridge rectifier on the back of the motor, and a quick check revealed that on 12v the motor would only run in one direction
, i made a little video of it

If it works great its an easy DIY fix, if not then hey-ho nothing lost.
