What a show!!!

First time at Warwick and it certainly wont be my last thats for sure  :-))
Lovely to see the traders so so busy all day today, some superb models on display and lots of pond action too.
Great to catch up with Martin hope you enjoyed the coffee and sorry if the picture of me getting in the way is blurry.

I will be back next year  O0

As am matter of interest for future plans are there more models present Saturday/ Sunday than Friday. I visited Friday this year & felt that there were gaps & generous spacing on some stands that I don't remember from Saturday last year.

This was the model that I enjoyed amongst the most as it just had the feel both on the stand & the lake. Even the sound system worked - & I am often not a great fan of them.

It was a good day out, so good to catch up with old friends.
One thing that did hit me was the age of the attendees.
I suppose i forget as i get older so do those older than me.
Did give me pause for thought.

Home after a very long but hugely enjoyable weekend.   :-))

1.   First time in 6- 10 years NO ROADWORKS between Peterboro' & Warwick!
( New junction  A14 / M1 / M6 spectacular feat of civil engineering! No delays even at Coventry 'Tollbar' roundabout! )

2.   Lots of new models to be seen at the show.
3.   Great stands. well done King Lear, 'Best stand of the show.'
4.   Great models... the boats were good too!
5.   Everybody in an effervescent mood!
6.   Lots of chat, lots of laughing.
7.   Klunk didn't dress up this year... ?!?
8.   Steve Dean & Kim Belcher in fine form and generated a lot of interest on and around the pool.
9.   The Traders I spoke to all said business was very brisk!
10. Surprised Wicksteed club stand didn't collapse under the sheer weight of all the warships!
11. Long chat with Colin Voss - HMS Warspite.... which won another Mayhem Gold Medal!
12. Best paint job of the show ( for me ) was not a boat, Chris Scott's SPV from Captain Scarlet (TV series).
13. Best model of the show ( for me )  went to two George Turner boats, made up to look like real working boats.
( Steve Griffiths, Phoenix mmc )
14. Great to catch up with so many of you you, thanks for your time and humour!
15. Even Dave Milburn was there Saturday, manning the Components shop stand.
15. Some very impressive steam model to be seen, didn't see any on water myself, pity.
( Nor submarines, did I miss them? )
16. New 'Lorry'ist'  display was active all day, some very impressive 'rigs' on show but I mainly liked the 'digger / loader model'.
17. Lots of 'unusual models on show too, e.g. Disco Volante, from the James Bond film, Thunderball.
18. Several new kits on show from Deans Marine & one from  Tony Green steam models.
19. New Model from Paul  Chilcott - A270 'Blue Rover'
( Rover class is a British ship class of "Small Fleet Tanker")
20. Great job by the organisers, well done Chris, Avril, et-al.  :-))

In reply to David48 and apologies for being outside the subject item..... There are many images of the real Fairmount Alpine which show the anchor well tucked up high in the hull when at sea. A really good one on Google Images shows her docked alongside one of her sister ships with just the lower part of the anchor exposed....I'm about to copy this for my almost completed model. Unless you're building a working anchor and need to see the complete pattern then you may get away with using this image. Plenty of weathering required around this area too.

Kind regards

Well done to Tamiya Truckin who also put on a fabulous display with their roads, bridges and earth pits etc.  Some very impressive rigs especially the loaders.

Hi Everyone,
Well after 4 days (including setting up) of full on activity I'm now back in soggy Norfolk.
Huge thanks to all those that took part in the pool activities. Judging by the applause everyone seemed to enjoy the displays. I get a lot of credit for putting it all together but without you guy's (and gal's) contributing it wouldn't happen ........ respect!!!!
Our humble Mayhem leader has made some a good observations above ........ here's a couple more:
1. In the kids sessions on both the Saturday and Sunday, they are really keen to have a go and don't want to stop. Some of them came back for second and third go's. However every Club I know struggles to get junior members. It's a real challenge.
2. For your interest there were only 2 models over the whole 3 days that were on 27MHz. There were still quite a few on 40MHz including a crane in the Truck arena and someone with a Tank. Co-operation with frequency control was a fuss free operation - cheers all.

Here's a bit of news for those that still yearn for the old Robbe F14 transmitter and its accessories. Futaba have made a new batch in 3 variants. Single throttle stick version (40MHz), Twin throttle stick version (40MHz) and a version with both the 40MHz module and 2.4GHz module. Howes Models (Kidlington, Oxfordshire) have them in stock and can get all the accessories and crystals. (PS .... I have no commercial involvement with Howes)

It was great to see everyone ....... the banter is infectious ........ the models are fantastic ........ Martins shirts are, er, loud ....... it's all over far too quickly.

Huge thanks to everyone  O0

I went on Friday which I think is considered to be pensioner's day!

As always, it was a great show but I did sense that attendance was down on previous years and the absence of former regular clubs and traders was noticeable. I suppose this is par for the course given the general reduction of footfall at shows and some of them falling off the calendar, Ellesmere Port and Coalville for example.

The problem, as always is that show costs are remaining static or increasing but the customer base is declining. Multimodelling seems to be the way to go but this does mean a rethink on how the shows are marketed. We have been here before of course on other topics but we must face up to the reality that traditional model boaters are ageing and are less able or willing to travel and are probably scaling back their domestic modelmaking activities too. These stalwarts are not being replaced in anything like equal numbers by the younger generations and as they literally die off the hobby will inevitably continue to shrink. This is a fact and has to be managed if the hobby is to survive. We now only have one national  model boating magazine as the readership of Marine Modelling had declined to the extent that it was no longer financially viable. Fortunately Model Boats is in a rather healthier state and should pick up sales from MMI as well so there is no immediate problem on that front. As Steve says, the sessions for youngsters at Warwick were indeed popular but there is still insufficient overall interest to reverse the general decline in the context of competing with all the other things that excite a young person's interests today.

I wish I could be more optimistic about the future but the truth is that the continuation of the current decline in model boating appears to be inevitable until it finally levels out at a much lower level than in its heyday.

Times change and people change with them, it has always been so.
