'Easymax' another name for an ugly ship
« on: August 29, 2017, 08:19:57 am »

This ship was posted to a facebook group I'm on. I hadn't a clue what I was looking at, the bow shots seemed to point to offshore supply boats, the low deck and stern pointed to a semi submersible carrier.

I was wrong on both counts, its of a design called Easymax dunno why, probably just another marketing soundbite to generate sales? Anyway this is the future of coastal shipping otherwise known by us as tramping %%

Actually I quite like it. In the style of the Great Lakers. It has quite a high air draft however.

I agree, and Wagenborg does sail up to the Great Lakes.
The higher draft would allow the transatlantic crossing back to the Netherlands or other European ports.

It was actually on the river Humber heading for the King George dock in Hull, UK on sunday, which is why I posted it (my home city) the photographer (not these shots) had similar views from on board one of the tugs.

I just think the design is wrong. Say the ship is sinking, you have to get from the hotel section (superstructure, bridge etc) all the way to the stern, then climb stairs to access that lifeboat, a very odd design to have it way back there.

Yes, I was thinking that Brian. It seems bonkers to have them so far apart. Unless the hull is super bouyant and is designed to stay partially afloat for a reasonable time. That does assume a lot of things work out well such as the damaged/breached hull surviving in a strong sea, not being on rocks/ dangerous coastline etc.

Tempting project idea though  :-)

A quick google search of images of this vessel produces a nice aerial shot at launch showing the port side of the superstructure. There appears to be a covered life raft of some description just below the control deck. If this is so then that would seem to answer the safety problems discussed.
