Hello all.


Has anyone bought from Vietnam ?
If so or know someone who has, is there UK duty to pay ?
The items that I am thinking about will cost around 150 U.S dollars.

  Probably no duty, but VAT (20%) will be payable. There will be a definite answer somewhere on the HMRC website.

A lot will depend on what the item(s) are and the value

https://www.gov.uk/goods-sent-from-abroad/tax-and-duty  is probably what you need to be looking at


potentially no customs duty, but there will be VAT and possibly a handling charge by the post ioffice / courier service

Yes be careful of the courier charge. last time I ordered something from Singapore, I had vat charged on it which I expected. I did not expect the DHL handling and courier charge (dhl now do customs handling at airports for which they charge the enduser!) That charge was more than the vat and parts together! Off the top of my head it was around £26. Privatising customs handling gave dhl a license to print money.

Get them to send it as a gift and valued at under £40 then you wont have anything to pay. Ive never paid customs duty or vat on items from anywhere  ,but all my items come from friends as gifts    .

limited to a value of 30 to 40 pounds or some thing like that . After that all taxes are added .
