Jon I have the correct colours by BSI mixed into aerosol cans for around £11, dark grey deck and light weatherworks, perfect match, well it would be using BSI numbers.  Did HMS Bristol a treat also at 1/72

Hello Dave,  I tend to use 127 Satin Ghost Grey, which seam a good match, and Matt 27 for the decks.

Today did a little work on the superstructure, created the curve at the front, but not happy with the result so may try something different. jon

Pop a bit of primer on it and see what its like. It may come good with some sanding especially as the corner tubes are quite thick.

I tend to do a lot of building at the weekends, then ponder what i have achieved during the week, then adapt, redo or accept the following weekend

Not much of an update, managed a few hours in the workshop continued with building the superstructure. Did a dry fit of the parts, starting to look like a warship. Got few days of work so hope to continue the build. jon

Hello Rich,
I have a couple of MFA 800 motors running on 12v, which will give a max rpm of 4000. Jon

Probably the best solution for the 1/72nd was thinking of going brushless on 1/96th. When I had the proboat Arleigh Burke the motors were fairly compact and gave a good turn of speed just need something similar for the 22.

The Glasgow Richmond club used to run lots of 1/72 scale warships.
The favoured motor was the Deccaperm. This gave just under 4000 rpm and the whine from the gearbox sounded almost like a gas turbine.

Sorry forgot to provide a link, the best thing about these paints is the fact they are the same as used by RN,

It's been a while since my last update, but the build continues. Been focusing on the hull and getting her ready for painting. This weekend I managed to apply the first coat of primer, and as expected the primer shows up all the imperfections. Out came the filler and now it ready for second coat. Jon

Bob,

Good source of paint what did you go for? enamel, full gloss, semi gloss or satin?

Do they come in any less than 10?

Rich
Went for the satin as it seems to have a nice flat look but not totally matt.
I just order how many cans I need, no minimum order and they even come with your name on  :}
For Bristol, I have used one can dark grey for decks and so far one can for hull and superstructure, once she is totally finished probably two more light cans.

Had the airbrush out again today intending to finish the red on the hull and the heavens opened >:-o . Managed to work between the showers and got the final coat of red applied. I'll leave it a week to dry fully and then start on the grey. Jon

Hello Rich,
I usually use Humbrol 127 Satin Ghost Grey, for the hull and superstructure, which seam a good match, and Matt 27 for the decks. But I am thinking about trying the BSI paints Bob recommended. Jon

As it's been raining all night and this morning, so I decided to postpone the painting of the hull for another day. Instead I thought I'd start adding a little detail to the superstructure. Hope to get back on with the painting once the rain stops. Jon
