Here's a few pictures of the progress around the funnel base, hope to continue with the hull painting this weekend, Jon

This morning I managed to get the first coat of grey on the hull, as mentioned before I have tried an alternative solution. This evening The paint is still a little soft, it did state on the web site that the paint takes 4-5 days to harden, so I'll leave it for a week before rubbing down for the next coat. First impressions are good, the colour is a close match to what I've used before, and the coverage is good. There is more than half a can left after the first coat. Jon

Finished painting the hull today, and started to add the pennant numbers and depth markings. For the first time I have used self adhesive hazard markings, in the past I would paint them on, which was a real a pain. This weekend I hope to complete the hull and apply a protective layer of varnish. Jon

These are the self adhesive hazard markings, not as difficult as I thought to apply.

Very nice Jon!
May I ask where you purchased your hazard markings from? They look the real business. I take it you had no problems creating a circular pattern?

Hello Nige,

I actually got them from EBay, here,s a link to the UK site.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Becc-1-72-Scale-Deck-Marking-Vinyl-Decals-Set-Model-Model-Boats-/401427318884

Putting them on was easier than expected, for the curves I used a compass first to mark the radius and then just followed the line slowly applying the markings. They are reasonable thin and so flex easy with a little thumb pressure. If you get it wrong they lift easy and can be reused, they are also pre-cut, so you just left them off. Great investment, only £6.99 a sheet, and so much easier than painting them. Jon

Today I finally finished painting the hull, and applied a couple of coats of satin varnish to protect the paintwork and seal the graphics applied. Gave the stand a coat of stain just to make it look a little smarter. Next I will continue to install the electrics and then it's time for the first sea-trials. Jon

Yesterday I fitted the electrics and all seams to be working OK. Prior to a visit to the lake I thought I'd better check that the model floats! Fortunately I have a raised pond that just happens to be big enough to accommodate the model. Had to add a little ballast to level the boat, still sitting a high in the water, but she will sit lower once complete. jon

Very tidy indeed Jon  :-)) ...many years ago, I worked on Guided Missile Launchers GMLS13 & 5"/54 Guns ........and the dreaded Seacat  %%

Twin Sea Sparrow's weren't invented in 1986

Just a question, did this Class really have inward turning propellers?

Good luck with the first Sea Trials .....Derek

Hello Derek, Good question about the props. I've not found any images of the T42 below the waterline so I made a 50/50 guess and went with inward turning props. Can easily change if anyone can confirm which way they should be. Jon

Goodness John....this vessel appears to have been very light ship by the tide mark & underwater growth  >>:-(....

Could she have been decommissioned prior to this unfortunate mis-hap or ??????

"The other Argentine vessel, Santísima Trinidad, capsized and sank alongside her" ...

Good view of the propeller Jon......... O0

Don’t forget T42 had variable pitch props to give forward or astern

The T42 props turned out board, see the book on T42's, which I don't have to had unfortunately. I can also tell that the hulls on these ships was never, ever, flat and smooth as per the model hull, they suffered if that's the right phrase, from "Tin Canning" from new. That is the plate went concave between the frames and the stringers when is was welded in place, because of the heat from the welding process and the thinness of the plate which, if I remember correctly, was half an inch.

Hi there Derek
I came across this pic whilst searching online for HMS York in drydock when she was modernised in about 2009 and they added the go-faster wing on the back (large trim tab across the stern) which I am sure was on the web but it may be on my 'old' computer - cos I was lucky to be sent some pics by a friend who served aboard her.   Apparently, the Argentinian type 42 fell over when someone carelessly broke or left open a seacock valve.   I do have a couple of pics which I have found in my old files, but you may have these/something similar.

is the Marriott book? if so cant find your reference, just a good picture of the prop, but even that could be misleading as it is variable pitch you would have to know if it was forward or astern O0 Personally all my grey funnel line all turn inboard, choose this at it was what a RN ME told me, and to be honest it works a treat, same performance in both directions so I am happy  :-))

The CPP Propellers on T21, T22 and T42 RN vessels all turned Inboard Chaps. I made a living taking them apart and putting them back together at Devonport for about 14years. As well as wrestling with the Hydraulics on all 21's  {:-{ , early 22's & 42's. On later hulls of these two classes, the system was much simpler.
Nice to see you are still alive and kicking Rob, I will be in touch shortly.
Awesome progress Jon!
