LB
is the Marriott book? if so cant find your reference, just a good picture of the prop, but even that could be misleading as it is variable pitch you would have to know if it was forward or astern O0 Personally all my grey funnel line all turn inboard, choose this at it was what a RN ME told me, and to be honest it works a treat, same performance in both directions so I am happy  :-))

Yes that is correct, I think it was in the chapter on the gearbox's. In model form it really does not matter which way they turn. However, before the advent of CP prop's they turned out board from about 1890 onwards in nearly every case.

On another point can anyone confirm just when black boot topping was introduced? I think it was in the latter stages of the first war but I'm far from certain.

Hello David, I have always used satin 127 Ghost Grey on my models, which I believe in 1/72 scale is the closed match to the real thing. Regards Jon

Humbrol 127 doesn't much resemble BS381C-676 in any objective sense, other than that it could be casually described as "light grey"

Stick with Light Weatherwork Grey, it looks good on 1/72 models and the RN have used it since 1968 so it must have something going for it.  :-))

Yes. I am going to go with that colour now James has it in stock in 125ml tins and I prefer
Matt finish on smaller1/96 scale

Those two are both satin/low sheen finish (same paint can even) which makes keeping them clean easier than matt paint. Funny thing is that the RN uses high gloss paint still. After a short time at sea, doesn't look very glossy at all. Neither does satin on a model.

Our two were painted with Dulux low sheen household enamel. Quite good stuff as Cleo was last painted in 1997.  :-)

A quick up date on the build, finished the bridge area and added a little detail to the upper superstructure. Started to paint until my airbrush gave up on me. Waiting for a new one to arrive, then I can continue with the painting. Jon

Managed a few hours in the workshop today. Thought I'd have a go at making the Decoy launcher lockers.
As I need several I will make a master, then make a mould, enabling me to cast exact copies.
Started by casting a basic block with fast cast resin, a gentle rub down with wet & dry and the i was ready to ad some detail.
Cut the sides and doors out with 0.5mm plasticard, ready to attached.Jon

Added the doors and created the hinges. Fitted the feet and now it's ready to make a mould from the master. That will be the next job. Jon

Hello David. Yes, I will glaze the windows. The roof is not stuck down yet as I am still working on the bridge internals and radar motor, which I will hide inside the bridge. For the vents I mixed my own colour using Humbrol 127 and a little red. The idea being it represents a slightly rusty look. Hope it works. Jon

Made the mould last night and managed to cast a couple of lockers. Just a little light rubbing down, and then their ready for paint. Jon

Tackled the foremast today, something I had been putting off due to the complexity and shape of the mast. After a bit of head scratching a came up with a solution. I used fast cast resin, casting between two plastic tubes and once set I cut the outer tube away to reveal a nice straight resin cylinder. I left the inner tube in for strength, then filed and sanded it to the desired shape. Worked better than I thought. Jon
