NQD Jet Boat modification
« on: October 08, 2017, 04:43:36 pm »

Treated my self with a new toy for my birthday in July.

A NQD Tear into jet boat.

Ripped all that crappy electronics out including the Jet-drive.

Bought in some new stuff for it.
2S 2200mAh Lipo battery
3S 2200mAh Lipo battery
 Motor BL Turnigy 3800KV 2627
ESC skywalker 40A

I intended to do a before video but the performance were so bad that I skipped it.

Chop shop

New and old motor

Jet drive in

Used the bracket from the old "servo" as fixingpoint for the new one.

Ready for the first test

First it was tested with 2S and it runs nice and stable, one need to adjust the rudder to 40% or it is totally non-controllable.

Video with 2S https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIzBSnTaxtA&feature=youtu.be

When using 3S it screams over the water and is a nuisance to all other boaters on the lake. But hey what a acceleration.  And sorry no video.

So all in all a quick project with a lot of fun, it took approx. 3 hours to do the modification.

Fantastic performer. Can you add a picture of what happened to the drive system at the transom end? Is it a surface piercing prop perhaps?

It is a waterjet drive and comes with the boat.

Looks great. I read the initial posting and thought the jet drive had been removed. It might make an excellent power unit for a scratch build project.  However, I guess there is possibly no reverse.
The boat looks like great fun with impeccable handling.

Hi Dave

I can see that it is not clear that I did reuse the jet-drive. But it has to come out so the motor can be changed.

Yes it is a strong drive and can easily be used in other builds, the set is available on the internet incl. brushed motor for a low amount, but be careful not to by direct from HK as i may cost a fortune in customs and tax (at least it do that in Denmark).
