riveting stuff.............couldn't take my eyes off it........it probably took longer to plan the whole exercise than it did to remove and install the cranks.


I am amazed by it all..

We used to cut a hole in the side of the engine room and fleet directly in to the engine room.

you engineers amaze me, the way nothing phases you.........


just one question..........if a crank like that failed at sea, would the engineers be able to do anything to get you home or to the nearest port, especially on a single screw ship.Or would you have to rely on tugs to bring home.

If the crank has not snapped and it is only a bottom end crank  pin which is run out or scored too heavily, we simply put a clamp around the pin to block the oil hole and hang the piston upside down in the cylinder, the fuel and water pipes were all individual and could be shut off, and you run on at reduced revs .one cylinder short.

Lovely insight to what goes on, I supply a lot of that stuff but never see where it actually goes
