Scillonian II
« on: October 25, 2017, 02:20:16 am »

A few years back a Warren & David Brown produced a lovely scale model of Scillonian II. Does anyone know how to contact them or where to find plans of this vessel?

Hi,

I think I recall seeing that model in Penzance some years ago at the booking office.

If you drop the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company an email at: sales@islesofscilly-travel.co.uk they might be able to help source the drawings.

I will have a look around when I am down there this weekend.

Could this possibly be the model you are enquiring about http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/cornwall/hi/people_and_places/arts_and_culture/newsid_8622000/8622478.stm

It would appear to be a one off model so plans may not even exist and the main builder has since passed away

Thanks Rich,

I tried them but no joy there.

In what way 'no joy'?

Did they say they didn't have the drawings or were they reticent in letting you have them?
If the former, try asking for the Marine Superintendant's details and writing to him instead - I have found that these chaps certainly know where all the info is kept.  There will certainly be drawings either in a file on the bridge or the Chief Engineers office.

They had nothing at all. If they were on the bridge, no chance for plans as she sunk in 2004.  :((    Scillonian III plans are out there by Jim Pottinger but not II.

That is the one, a classic old design from 1955 by Thornycroft.

I have a copy of a MAP publication "Simple Cardboard Modelling" which has general arrangement drawings and frame drawings for a model about 26" long and 4" beam. A quick google showed some copies available at about £12. If you are interested PM me and I will see about trying to get some copies of the drawings. ( My book cost 50p from a library clearance sale in about 1980.)

I've been racking my brains trying to think of that books name, as I could remember having a copy years ago, and that it had the ship in it. Thanks for filling the gap.

There are two model plans around of Scillonian II. Crop up on eBay from time to time...

I can scan the magazine build article and drawing if you send me a message with your email address.
