Fremantle or Attack Class Patrol Boats
« on: September 04, 2007, 09:14:47 am »

Hi All

I am thinking about my next project, although I have not finished my first build. I would like to know if anyone knows if the Fremantle or Attack class Patrol Boat hulls are available in fibreglass. I can get the plans for the Fremantle but I don't think my skills are up to scratch building a hull just yet. I have seen both in model form and even on the Mayhem site. I find these vessels quite interesting especially when you consider that these two classes as well as the new Armidale class are all that will stop Australia from an Invasion ;D ;D ::) ::)

bigfella,
I had one of these.
The Freemantle hull is produced in 2 scales by an Aussie Company, APS Models.
They don't have a website, but the last contacts I have are some years old and are:
APS Models
PO Box 5025
Gwandalan 2259
Or perhaps someone from Oz can be of more help.
They sail superbly, but the hull is very narrow from the bow 1/3, so I ended up with my batteries in the stern.
I could dig out some old pics if you want.

Hi Bob

Just re-read your post and Yes please I would like to have a look at those Photos if it is not too much trouble. I have started research on APS and the person I need to get in contact with is Allan Pew, I have seen some of his models on Task force 72's website and they are pretty impressive.

Thanks heaps Bob

Really fantastic model, great detail. I don't know if it has reached UK TV yet but there is a show that is currently airing here "Sea Patrol" Which is kind of a drama based on one of these vessels, I know it is going to air in the UK but don't know when. I watch it to get more close detail of the Fremantle class PB. I think they actually use the HMAS Wollongong. What motors did you use as I have about 8 540s lying around and would think that two of these would be power enough.

I used some Deans Marine motors on 7.2 volts and brass props.
I used 2 x 7.2 2Ah for ballast and power.

Hi All

Sorry everyone if I have not replied to any posts. I have just got home this minute from 9 days in Canberra and have been out of contact with the computer. so much so that I just checked my emails and I had 307 new ones. I will get back to speed tomorrow, I need some sleep, I have some photos of the Australian War Memorial and will post some if anyone wants me to.
