Wood decking
« on: November 07, 2017, 01:06:16 pm »

I have a trumpeter 1/350 Tirpitz,  and the only 2 wood decking kits I can see on ebay is for the Tamiya kit, will these fit the Trumpeter kit.?   One is made by Hunter the other is made by Shipyard. Does anyone know which is best?  Any help please.

You might try these folks: https://www.megahobby.com/products/dkm-tirpitz-type-r-teak-tone-wood-deck-1-350-pontos.html?utm_medium=googleshopping&utm_source=bc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1I2096yt1wIVA2p-Ch32ZQnDEAkYBCABEgLb9_D_BwE

wood deck after market kits are very specific for each kit.  you will probably have to ask the manufacture for recommendations.  Good luck.  Dennis

From what I've read the Trumpeter Tirpitz is a copy/clone of the Tamiya kit, so the decks you've identified should be fine. I don't know how good they are as I've only used  the self-adhesive Artwox decks, which I've found to be excellent. Which ever ones you use make sure you seal around all the edges with superglue to prevent lifting.

Thanks rsm ,I think I have read somewhere that Tamiya and trumpeter are the same but wasn't sure.  Thanks for the tip regarding the superglue,  do you run a bead round the edge after sticking the wood down, or stick the edge down with the superglue  :D . Thanks also to Dennis for your reply and help.

Once you've stuck your deck down I would run a bead around the edge and everything that sticks through the deck. Use thin superglue with a fine applicator. I also varnish the deck to keep the water out.

Thanks again Roger,  not to worried about keeping the water out as I have decided to make it a static model.

Hi oldman look at pontos models. I think you may be able to get them from Sovereign hobbies in the uk.

Try a company called Artwox they specialise in wooden decks. I've used them for my 1/350 Trumpeter HMS Dreadnought, the deck cost about £20 and was easy to fit and good quality and very realistic, it was precut so you can remove bits over all the deck fittings.
