New Springer........
« on: November 12, 2017, 12:55:13 pm »

Well I have  cracked on with my new springer, not bothered with pics from the start as it is a very standard build.......until now.
I am not going to tell you what it will end up being or anything else, as it is top secret, plus it may not work. Don't worry though, as soon as I can update, I will.........I really hope this works and looks as good when it is finished as it does in my head.

Given the colour scheme, my money is on a war-springer. But armed with what, that is the question!

It's what IT SHOULD be armed with is a clue........ :-))

Should have an update later today if my planning comes together, as building from the back of a fag packet so to speak!

The coaming sure allows for a large superstructure. Watching. An aircraft carrier that should have aircraft? - well apart from our two they normally do.

The flight deck built and glued together, fit edging strips next, then the 2 islands. Should be fun.......I may go for the slight oversize look, not sure yet?

Dear God, with that much power available she won't need aircraft to fly!!!!!

Mind you our new carriers haven't got any aircraft any way

Propulsion system, going to fit my thruster pod in it, will run off 6V rather than 12V, don't it to be the first submersible aircraft carrier......... :embarrassed:

Thruster pod in position, waiting for rubber sleeves.
Rudder arrived, now need to modify the blade.
Servo and a pair of 6V batteries next on shopping list.
Then need to find some small (3" long ish), sea harrier models which should be on this vessel.

Love the propulsion drive idea, a bit like a Seadoo, nice one,  Revell do a 1:144 scale Harrier should be close to the size you want.  :-))

Nice drive system you'll be able to tip the harriers off the bow all I keep seeing is a Shanon doing a crash stop lol

Ok, did first bath tub test to check for any leaks, all good. Then ballasting, took 2.5kg to get to the water line, which has "xxxxx" me as I was wanting to use 2 x 6v 14ah sla batteries, trouble is these are 2.1kg each, so a total of 4.2kg.......damn.
I rather not use LiPo batteries as they need a lot of care and attention for safety reasons. Is there a better solution? Motor is a Leopard 800kv inrunner.
Look forward to suggestions.

Decided to use 2 x 4.5ah sla batteries instead for time being, see what run time I get off them.

Wow, that's good Joe.
Not sure how power hungry the brushless motor is going to be?
Gonna be fun finding out though...... :-))

A question guys. I would like a servo that has 180 degree rotation for steering, for the life of me I cannot find one. Nothing fancy oe expensive.

Hi Stewart     Hitec HS 77 BB 180° retract servo.  £19.99   if it helps.

Joe.

Better check if it is a proportional servo first. Retract servos tend to be two position only, either fully left or fully right and don't center.

Yeah the 77 is proportional the 75 is what's commonly known as bang bang, although as Stewart's using a rudder I was wondering why the 180 degree, anything over 45-50 degrees ether way and the rudder becomes inefficient. a standard servo would suffice, maybe Stewart has something else in mind.   :o

Thanks for pointing out my error. Yes 180 is going to be wrong......DOH.
Just that a standard 60 degree servo is not going to give a great turning circle.......maybe 90 degree? Sorrg for being a dumb ass!

I am not sure how your steering is going to be connected but the relative length of the arms on the servo & rudder will change the amount of rudder deflection available. I have never found maximum rudder angle to be a problem as there comes a point where the rudder really doesn't help by turning any more.

My Springer turns in it's own length.
Steerable Kort nozzle works for me
and my first had a fish tail rudder
which was almost as good.

I agree with Ned, the fish tail rudder works really well, my first Spinger practically turns on it's axis with the rudder aprox 45 degrees.
