Expletives Deleted!
« on: November 15, 2017, 09:42:12 am »

Yesterday I prepared moulds for making some new flood and spotlights. Everything sorted I went out to my store room for the water clear resin - it had set in the container without any catalyst in it >:-o

I only use maybe 250ml in a year, does anyone know where I can get water clear resin in small amounts please? Suppliers I have seen on the internet only sell in 1 litre sizes obviously because embedding something for paperweights etc uses a lot of the stuff.

But its still a litre bottle mate, which is a waste. I don't mind paying out the cash but when 3/4's of it gets tossed ......

What you need, is the air displacement product to store your material.
One of the guys at the shop suggested buying a bottle of Argon to let into the bottle to displace the air.
I haven't gone that route yet, but I do purchase "Poly Purge".  :-))
Perhaps you can find it locally.

Thanks Umi, I am unable to find that exact product over here, but there must be something similar available. In the meantime I'm going to try the link from BFStew, on the expensive side, same price for 250ml as a 1 litre container, but I know it won't be wasted.

I`ve cast 1:18 scale car headlights using Devcon 2ton clear epoxy.  28gm syringe for under a fiver.   Heat  some in hot water and let air bubbles rise before pouring. Normal hardening time is over an hour but will be quicker but good enough to fill the mould details.  worth a test first of course.  Amazon lists it.

How does it polish arrow? When I use the clearcast it can be sanded with 15grit wet and dry to remove any flash and key the surface for paint. But what would be the lens face I use 2500 grit with soapy water to polish it for the led light to shine through.

I don't polish them.  The surface is adequate for my purpose and interior details show  quite well. Not as hard as true encapsulating materials.

I have not tried this but I am told that if you play a hot air gun on epoxy you get rid of the bubbles & get a mirror finish. How long you use the hot air gun for????????

I believe this z-poxy mixes without bubbles, dries clear....and have seen it cured with a hair dryer on a low setting......

Good for hull internals where you have both horizontal and vertical surface being coated at the one time

...but that takes us back to the price.  The Devcon was recommended because it came in very small amounts at less cost.  It is a glue not a coating or casting epoxy. Heating the tubes in warm water seems less fierce than a flame.  Plenty tutorials on youtube,  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTnmVn5FxNQ   Good information there but he is showing casting resin not clear glue.
