From everything I've seen or heard about the 144th scale Corvette it's a real peach.  It's not a scale down of the 1/72nd one but a new kit in all respects.  Reports are that the detail and fit of parts is very good.  It certainly looks the part if it's put together right.  On the downside there are no crew figures but they may well appear as a separate set.
A company called "Munich Kit" has produced a set of 6 resin crew figures which also look good.

See May Model Boats for my article on converting it to RC.  The fit of the quarterdeck was so good I could just clip it in allowing easy access if a problem develops with the steering.

It certainly improves on the Matchbox 1/72 one in most areas although the railings are too heavy and need replacing by photo etch if building for static display.  501 parts will keep most people busy for a while!

Revell have just announced a different version - HMS Buttercup - which will presumably add minesweeping parts.

Replacing Revell railings is a given I think (they still use that damnable practice of plastic stanchions and thread on some of their recent kits) The corvette railing are moulded but look a bit bulky.  I think there's already a PE set available.

I had a look and couldn't find the article either.  There was an article on converting plastic kits, is that the one?

Very sorry about that - lesson learnt, don't rely on memory

I did the micro ESC article in May which was very successful in the 1/144th corvettte

Everyone has to apply for a pennant number so we don't all build the same ship!

Martin, I accept!
As you raised the thread, Martin, You get K166 HMS Snowberry. Next will be Klunk who gets, if he chooses to accept, USS Saucy (the other kit option.)

The aim will be to achieve a running, finished model by next year's show at Warwick where, hopefully, we will attempt to sail as many 1/144th scale Flower Class corvettes as possible.
Now there will be a limit on the amount of modification of the basic kit. Handrails and basic photo- etch upgrades. No huge amounts of re-building using photo-etch.
Kit must be painted but weathering isn't mandatory.

Just ordered one! Can I have HMS Pennywort K111? Love the look of the acoustic hammer on the bow!

I have not seen the Model Boats article but it looks interesting & I have 3 questions:

1) I calculate the beam as 70mm which seems very narrow so does it have stability issue - false keels etc?
2  Is it able to cope with being in a pond where others are churning up the water or is it a calm water only model?
3)  prop & motor? I don't think that my standard car heater motor would work well in one of these!

I think it's going to be what I call a small pond model.  At less than 500mm long it probably isn't going to cope with the turbulence of a windy day or the fast electric boys.
As regards the prop and motor perhaps we can prevail on Allnightin to reprise the component list from his article as well as the ballast he used.

There is enough margin of buoyancy if you use a Super Tech sub micro servo , a 4.8V 950 mAH NiMH, a 280 sized motor and the ESC taken from a Feetech  FS90 contiuous rotation servo (as MB May 2017) plus an Orange R610 type to only require 40 grams of sheet lead for ballast to the scale waterline ad have ample stability.  I suspect you could use a 140 sized motor instead allowing a larger battery pack or a heavier speed controller but I got plenty of endurance out of the existing setup.  I used a Graupner 3 bladed 25mm diameter plastic prop which is a bit larger than the kit one.

It only weighs 370 gm and has limited freeboard but was fine during a club free sail session recently and was nippier than many!
