Lipo charge balancing
« on: November 29, 2017, 03:11:22 pm »

I have a Pro Peak Prodigy II charger. I'm thinking of going to LiPo with my EzEbilt Terrier MTB (x2). I gather that nowadays you have to balance the charge between LiPo cells. Can I get a balancer gizmo to go between the charger and the battery, or do I need to buy a new charge with a balancer. Or, is it not worth bothering with balancing?

Toby
If you continually charge a 2+ cell LiPo pack without balancing the voltages then sooner or later the cells will become critically out of balance. This is not good. I don't know of any gizmo which will turn the Pro Peak into a balancing charger, but you can get a mains or mains+DC "slow" charger for LiPo's which will balance-charge the cells for not a lot of money. Have a shufti at Component Shop's lists. https://www.componentshop.co.uk/chargers/lipo.html
but avoid the Turnigy 5011; it's got a reputation for poor quality and performance and it's out of stock anyway.
