plans 1/50th scale tugboat "Tirrick".
« on: December 06, 2017, 12:35:28 pm »

The plans are for VOITH SCNEIDER PROP model. I am a pensioner retired [welder]. I cannot weld wood!!!!!
I AM COMPLETE NOVICE.
1. Can I alter plans for Graupner schottel drive x
2. If not how do I fit the VSP'Sx2 with the ribs in position on the hull?
3. Are the ribs solid or like a horseshoe!!!!.

I am completely lost. I got the  plans via Cornwall models. they were very helpful to a point.
Can anyone give me clue in LAYMAN'S TERMS PLEASE.

 THANK YOU,
   ROB SHAW

The ribs have their centres cut out and can be a horseshoe./C or a D shape. see pictures below. The solid ones in the top left of the fist picture are the bow which in this model was carved from solid wood to get the required shape.

After the hull is sheeted, and fiberglassed the ribs around the drive mounting can be cut back.

If you don't want to use the Voith Schneider drives, you can work in a standard propeller and shaft
from another area of the model, and land the propellers short of the stern to allow for standard rudders.
