Nothing less than true heroes. I’m sure there’s a special VIP club in heaven purely for lifeboatmen.

My dad was rescued from the coaster Taycraig in Mount's Bay by a previous Penlee lifeboat. The cox put the boat almost on the deck of the coaster to get the crew off.


That, plus two other rescues from sinking or bombed ships, left him with an enduring respect and admiration for the crews of the RNLI.


He wept when he heard what had happened to the Solomon Browne and Christmas was not the same that year.


RIP, gallant lifeboat men.
