...and some rowing marines. This was a good show to see some quirky watercraft. Not easy recovering the smaller lifeboat but they did it.

The launch of the daughter craft is relatively simple, the recovery is quite a bit harder. Its something I'm working on with my current build except mine is launched/recovered from a hangar - arduino microcontroller helps with this along with some deft mechanicals.

I was looking at doing this with a Revell 1/72 Hermann Marwede by having the little boat connected to the big one with a reel of fishing line - let the winch out and the little boat will fall astern to the length of the line and reel it in until it mates back with the mothership.

The little boat would really be no more than a cork bobbing around filled with foam and weighted to keep it upright with a folding sea-anchor underneath. I was thinking of around 10 feet of fishing line reeled up inside the mothership.

Very simple and 'idiot resistant'.

I like the idea of the wire noose Tim, I did mine the other way up, a stiff wire that can be recovered into the hull, but extended it lays in the water and engages a slot in the keel of the daughterboat. My thinking was drive over it and the springiness of the wire should engage the slot and pull it aboard.
