Hi my Grandson loves watching the RC boats on the local lake
And has ask Grandad to buy him\ me one lol.
What's a good starter battery version speedboat type....

Club 500 springs to mind but you do need to build it
About £60 plus the usual radio receiver speed controller, servo for steering and a battery and adhesives

Volantex Tumbler. About forty quid, get a spare battery to go with it. Self righting, small and cheap if it doesn't catch on!

There are a number of “RTR” ready to run boats at HobbyKing an online retailer if that is more what you were thinking of  :-))
