Beautiful work, once in a while I find a build that I truly admire and yours is one of them. Keep up the good work.

Hello,
I've just worked on liferaft. I did not succeed in mould and resin. So I put each one in my drill and shape it with sand paper.
They are 8 the same number as  counter measure box. They are stocked  inside

Hi,

Just asking -for the liferaft cannisters did you wrap polystyrene strip round the body?  I never had a problem doing this for years but recently I am finding the polystyrene strip breaks instantly as the solvent is applied.  I have maybe been making polystyrene things for 20 years and never had a problem, but the last 6 months it seems to make no difference what solvent or polystyrene sheet / extrusions I use, everything goes "ping" and breaks when solvent is applied under bending.  I am also finding the same chemical attack when I use CA instead -it never used to happen.  Perhaps the chemical mixes have changed?  Much respect to folk (and you!!!) who can still make it work.

Thanks,

Rich

I have had that issue with CA, I suspect it's the glue causing the plastic to go brittle while its stressed from bending around a curved form.  Have not had that issue using Tamyia solvent cement.

Could I suggest rapping the plastic strip around a suitable diameter metal rod(I usually used the shaft of a drill bit). Tape in place and pour over boiling water. The heat forms the plastic to the curve and reduces the chance of breaking when glueing in place.

With the greatest of respects, I'm intrigued how our modeller does it.  I'm not inexperienced, actually I tried the Tamia solvent for the first time recently and I find it the most difficult solvent to deal with -it's very aggressive, clearly designed for plastic model kits.  I'm in France these days also so no easy access to the usual solvents and glues that "just work" over the last 20 years.

Now that is amazing!
That is some skill will a soldering iron, I’m still practicing my skills on larger items and plan on getting to a standard to solder the masses of iron work on my Invincible’s bridge but even that is bigger than your exquisite stanchions.

Likewise I am impressed with your brass work and soldering. The rails and their awkward shapes are fabulous!

Is the clear plastic strip a stencil or letraset (Old school!) ??

Hello,
Thank you for your comments.
Now, it is time to paint. For first time, I use a paint for figurine (Prince August) . A very good quality and very easy to airbrushed, but very delicate .A water drop on a dry surface, and it is a small disaster. So, 3 vernish edges will be airbrushed to protect the painting.

If the paint you mention is Vellejo then yes, it has a period during its curing where it is a bit like vinyl and is fragile. It doesn't take knocks well and I find it lasts much better if painted over good old Humbrol style enamel or a good primer.

Your bridge front looks good Midori :)

Hello,
So, it's time to finish hull and to give it a weathering effect. So, with pigments and paint, why not represent seaweed and seashell.

Hello,
Thank you for your coments. It's time to give more life to the ship.I wanted to represent a refueling at sea. And keep an idea why not in the future sail with a french or a british navy tanker. On the second photo, i ve tried to represent rust on the exhaust.

Little rust or loads, it is always worth doing a little something as these areas probably got periodic repaints/replacements and so could be at any stage in between. Our veteran sailors can tell us best how often an exhaust would be maintained.

With regards to British military vehicles, an old friend of mine who did national service in the late forties said that for scratches on vehicles, you rubbed a bit of old engine oil in to stop rust before getting the opportunity to paint the offending area, otherwise you were put on charge for negligence.
