Now she is a beautiful ship T888! I bet you are as proud as punch at how well she sits and sails?

Superb work  :-))

Hi All,
It's been some time since my last post, but I've found the removable section of the deck was cut to far forward. So I had to remove the section and replace it  {:-{ >>:-( .
Now it's done I have started work on the main mast.

Wow what a nice build. She cuts a fine wake, has a nice tactical diameter and appears very stable for such a narrow fine hull. You have done a fine job of keeping your weights low.

Thanks All,

Most of the credit must go to the full size ship designer.

Yes I'm very please with her performance , I just need to keep the weight down with the remaining fittings so as not too upset her.

In the next few months I'll try to see how she performs in bad weather. When I do l wil post a video.

Is the mast made of styrene and brass?

Hi Ian,
It's made from plastic tube, but I've put copper wire inside this help with strengthening and helps to keep it light.

Oh, that is clever! You get the best of both worlds with an easy glue surface and light weight strength.

Slow progress, but started to make the search light.
It Needs the LED, lens, mounting bolts and paint.

Hi Dave, That is a lovely model that you must be proud of. That's one other project that has been fun to watch throughout the last few months.

Well, first attempt at the jolly boat, if it comes out well I will mould it.

The layer of clinker planks should make the hull thick enough to cast reliably. I hate boats, they take ages to make and need all that davit gubbins and griping bars etc.

Hi  just playing with moulding and cast the hull only as a solid cast, before I use the master to mould the full boat.
[/size]Also I tried to use the mould for making a thin cast. It's worked to a point but it too thin at the top of the casting. I will play with it a bit longer.

It is a good start. You are getting a full hull, so you know you can work from there. One of our members from France did some fibre glass boats recently which worked nicely. It might have been Serge or Richleau.

Well, second boat made from the thin casting. Plan to cast the oars, so I'll have a full set for each boat. Next is to start on the davits then paint and add detail like ropes, blocks etc. Then fit both to the model.

It looks nicely to scale in thickness. The thwarts and details should strengthen it up well.

I must say I'm pleased with how its come out of the mould. It's very light & strong, also it will not increase top weight, another plus for doing it that way.

A freind has asked if I could post pictures of how I make the davits, so here's some and a simple step by step.

1. I use 20 thou ABS plastic. The davits shape is a photo copy taken from the plan.
2. The copy transfused to is the ABS and stuck down using Pritstick.
3. Cut to shape
4. Once this is cleaned up , I use EverGreen strip to make the "H"beam web,s
5. Next I'll add detail.

That method allows so much more freedom than when using styrene shapes. You can add any odd shapes and flares etc in without mutilating a stock piece. The key is getting the edges of the inner perpendicular to its face so the flanges sit right.

It's looking good  :-))

Too wright Ian, however I did try using 2mm brass section but I could not get a smooth bend with out it twisting and becoming a bin job.  >>:-( This method as you said gives freedom for detailing.
