I have just set up a TVR engine ( sixth time I have done this ) which he could not get to run. The most common problem people seem to encounter is confusion regarding which is the front and rear of the engine in the instructions. It actually makes no difference which way around you run the engine however in terms of set up its important. this photo from the instruction booklet with labels added should help.
