Scaling up/down drawings
« on: January 06, 2018, 06:50:44 pm »

Hi,

Anybody help with the ratio I need to scale a set of drawings from 1/20th to 1/12th scale please or is there a good link out there.

Ideally I could use a photocopier in percentages.

Cheers.

20 ÷ 12 = 1.66

So enlarge your drawings on a copier by 166%

Or multiply all the dimensions you make on the 1/20 scale plans by 1.66

Alternatively buy a set of nice proportional dividers  from Ebay ( a good antique set not a cheapo from India)  when you have set the scale change on the slide, any dimension taken on the narrow span will automatically be set on the wider span and vice versa.

Photocopiers % are often very approximate and different in X-Y scales.

Another way is to scan the plan into a PC and then re-assemble it in something like PowerPoint and then size it to whatever size you want for printing - and then Staples will print out A0 from a USB stick for under £5

I've found PowerPoint rulers to be precise so it will be mm accurate.

Other option is find a local reprographics shop. They can scan and print a version at whatever scale you want. If you need additional copies for cutting out templates the cost per copy is relatively cheap

Have used this method for work (engineering) and is reliability accurate.
