Does anyone know if these are the same maker as the Stratos Interceptor by any chance?

Thanks Martin,

I was guessing they looked like they shared the same mould.

I don’t know if  HydraFibre made them or if Stratos was a later owner of the moulds and manufactured them independently.

Enjoy your weekend!

There is an eBay seller constantly listing mouldings, or copies of the first boat in pic one of this thread and essentlially, the yellow hulled boat in subsequent pics if it helps though not too sure that seller knows what he's listing.

Was this Jetfoil by the same company?
Anyone ever build this up?

I made a cheeky offer for a “new and boxed” Stratos Interceptor last night......and it was accepted!

When it arrives I  will take some pictures to add to this thread.

Stay safe!

Found this showing more of the range of semi kits from Hydrafibre Models. I've still got the Dark Class hull somewhere.

HI well i bought a type 21 frigate hull in 1/64 scale off him an an a lot of the white metal fitting in 1994 as the hull turned up on the day my mum died an on that day i dint feel like up to opening it but it was a very good hull but the bridge in GRP was a little on the thick side an to save weight i had to cut it thinner
I still have all the papers show in his hulls an there was also a type 12 Leander class also in 1/64 scale an some fast electric hull also on the papers

I have seen these on eBay offered with a pre-joined hull and deck with a rubber joining strip covering the flange joint.

You are right, it looks exactly the same and also looks to be nicely finished and only available in white (black rubber jointing strip).

It also looks like remarkably good value too and with a deep vee hull it reasonably claims (IMHO) good rough weather handling too.

I may take another look at this model as it does look very interesting and probably is a copy - or have the original moulds be acquired and are back in production again....?

When I got home last night, there was a large box waiting for me.

The box was certainly well packed and inside was a new un-started kit for the Interceptor and to my surprise, there was a small pack of pre-cut wood parts, a short M5 prop shaft and some lengths of brass rod to make the various railings and rear mounted dive ladder.

A brass rudder, water scoop and outlet were also included and are probably the original items.  The brass shows signs of being old and being allowed to get damp, but they will clean-up well and look good, although the rudder looks very small for a model of this size, so I may change it for a similar size to the one that I have fitted on my Rapier as I know that works well.

The hull is moulded in a blue glass fibre colour and the deck and super-structure is moulded in white. The flying bridge parts are pre-cut in plywood.

A printed set of instructions with dimensioned diagrams to show where to drill various holes and gave the measurements to enable the windows to be cut out etc were also included.

These instructions had a name printed on the top of the front page that looked like it has been applied at a later date with a rubber stamp, and this said:-

Stratos Models.
19 Earsham Street.
Bungay,
Suffolk,
TEL: 2373.

My guess would be that this is a copy of the original HydraFibre intstructions that have had the new owner/makers name rubber stamped on the top as an easy way to provide the building instructions whilst identifying the new business owners ??

The box was damp and so I have dumped it , but I have kept the lid with the printed label and just inverted it to hold all the parts until I get around to assembling it.

The telephone number suggests that this is quite an old kit, but I have no idea just how old it could be or when HydraFibre ceased trading - or just stopped making these kits.  Presumably Stratos Models took over the production - or maybe they just bought up some unsold stock and had their own label printed?

Any information regarding the likely vintage of this kit or when Hydrafibre was last active or ceased trading would be interesting to know.

As for the model, in broad terms it is not unlike the Rapier insomuch that it is about the same size and is a fast cabin cruiser with a similar cab arrangement and should be capable of giving a very similar performance.

To help identify this model, the third picture down from the top of those at the start of this thread shows an Interceptor painted with a black hull and flying bridge with a white deck and super-structure.

This is the only picture that I have ever seen of the Interceptor - apart from the box lid label on the kit that I have just bought.

All of the other pictures on this thread that show a different cabin cruiser to the Interceptor would appear to be of the HydraFibre Dominator.

Maybe this was the more popular cabin cruiser in the range - and it looks remarkably like the new white ones that are often seen for sale on eBay.

That looks quite tidy - somebody will enjoy that and it looks like it does not need any real work to get it on the water and running.

the spirit was made originaly by jeff harper.
he done this model cutting a pipedream mk 2 and then lengthen it to make it 60 inch long.
goes realy well . and thats is its link to hydrafibre.
goes very much like a pipedream mk 1, just a touch better for realy rough water

Recently "skipped" an immaculate untouched Spirit of the South as I couldn't find anyone who wanted such a big boat when I needed it out of the way in a hurry.
