Hello Mayhem Members, I am a newbie.
« on: January 23, 2018, 12:12:37 am »

Just joined today. Looking forward to getting involved with building model boats with others.
A while ago I order two (identical) cheap wooden boat kits from China. I was hoping the get them before Christmas. No need to say I got them in the new year (and both at separate dates).

Last year I started model making, and I am still on my first project. It is a diorama. However, the diorama requires a boat which travels up and down a river. The boat has no room to turn around, so it just has to reverse back. I bought two boats because I plan to add two bow sections; so the boat will be symmetrical and then nobody will straight away think it is going backwards.

The boat is a 1/50 scale fishing boat (trawler size).

I will shortly start a thread in 'Beginners start here'.

Welcome to the forum Tinny! Your build already looks intriguing and I am looking forward to see the finished diorama.

Thanks ballastanksian for welcome and interest.

Yeah, that diorama is still a long way from completion. But once I do get it finished, I will post some photographs.

I live in Ballina, NSW.

There is a RC model boat club and RC model sailing club in Ballina. Both are separate entities operating in different waters. I am not a member of either (yet). I am ex-RAAF. and lack interest in surface vessels. However I have a strange interest obsession in submarines for some crazy reason which I cannot figure out. Love all the movies and have lots of books on them.

The diorama is not for me, but for the Ballina Naval & Maritime Museum. I am just a lowly volunteer worker (The whole museum is run by volunteers). The museum wants to upgrade by including interactive displays. Last year they received an antiquated console for operating the Wardell lift-span bridge. They asked me (ex-avionics) if it could be used to operate a model bridge. To cut the story short, I am building a working lift-span bridge set on a 4 x 8 foot display table (diorama, scale 1/72). The boat I am now building is for traversing under the bridge when the lift-span is raised.
