Powertrain for a 125% Springer?

Hello All,
I've just started building a slightly obese springer (25% oversize).
Could anyone advise on motor and prop please?  It's a low budget build, so preferably looking for something relatively cheap and cheerful.
Battery life is more important than speed if that makes a difference?

Hi  Skov and welcome to Mayhem.

Ah !!  Springers, my favourite boats.   :-))

With these craft, it's really important how you make them as it's entirely up to you.  Speed is not really important as the hull shape dictates how the boat moves through the water.  What you need is power   (thrust)  to push the blunt end through the water.  I mainly use a 550 series motor for slow  'grunt' with a 40mm  to 50 mm prop.

You can also use a larger battery as the hull shape will allow it to chug around all day.  The fun comes in the novelty shape of the upper works and we'd love to see what you come up with.

We'd love to see pictures of your build as you progress and will gladly help in any way we can.

Hi John.  Yes that motor would be fine but even a 550 would also do the job and you would probably get away with a 55mm prop as your Springer is 25% bigger, you also have plenty of room for a pair of SLA batteries which act as active ballast and as Ken said will chug around all day,  and you will still need lead ballast.

Hi  I've just started to gather some odds and ends to start a build. I use 555 from components £6 5050 revs, high torque. I have a 36" Tid runs for over an hour, no trouble. hope this helps.

Well, it took a little longer to build than I had planned, but it's finally on the water!



It's still a bit of a work in progress, but I'm very happy with how she performs!
