H.M.S. Iveston
« on: April 09, 2006, 05:58:26 pm »

Hi, this is now my model of H.M.S. Iveston, a Minehunter of the 2nd Mine Countermeasures Squadron, based at H.M. Naval base Portsmouth.

It was originally built by Mike Hill of the Kingsbury Model Boat Club, who has been forced to sell it through ill health. I have assured Mike that it is at least, still in good hands and he will still be able to see her performing at our club lake.

It is completely scratchbuilt and is to the scale of 1/48. It runs on two 777 motors powered by a 6 volt 10 amp gel cell, with additional 6 volt 3.5 amp battery for the many working features that this model posseses.
Including Independent motor control with rudder movement, operated with a movable cam and four micro switches, this feature can be switched over for normal running.
Working, work lights, navigation lights and flashing signal lamps.
Anchors raise and lower
Moving Bofor gun
Rotating Radar Scanner
Crane 1is the On/Off Switch
Crane 2/3 swing outwards
Rear Cranes 4/5 lift Paravanes fro racks, swing outwards, lower into water, then raise and swing back inboard, to lower Paravanes back in racks.

Warship.  sorry to hear about Mike Hill.

what a model, she is fantastic  I am toying with the Idea of building one not for a while
as im building a lifeboat at the moment, my first attempt at semi scratch.
so at the end of that I will know if to look for a kit or not.  mine if started will be of
the Curzon, ton class which was based at shorham sussex  use to go and look at her when I was a kid
if mine looks half as good i will be more than happy.  seeing her as strirred up some memorys.
Cheers

MCAI
? ? ? ? ?Thank you for your comment's, yes she is a lovely model and all credit to Mike who built her. He has put a lot of work into her electrics and it's not for the feint hearted. Luckily, Mike who is a bit of an electronics expert, has set the model up for me to run on my Futuba AEX 6 boat memory transmitter and everything is working great. Something I was not capable of doing myself, as electonics are not my pet subject regarding model boats.
Funily enough, as you mentioned that you would like to build one. Sirmar do two models of the Ton Class in 1/48 scale, one as a Minesweeper and the other as a Minehunter, like the Iveston, either model, complete with the hull, drawings and all fittings to complete, works out at just over ?300. Check out their site for all the details.
