Bob I Always use Parcel to go tbh its a lottery who couriers anything these days I would definitely stay clear of The one starting i a Y and ending in an L but make sure you track and also insure it well over what its replacement value

Yes I agree with Dave
Normally ,I use Hermes but if it's a big model they tend to put it on the bottom of the cages that they use I have had two trashed lately  but I always insure them and track them plus signed for  and always with fragile tape all over them but must admit Hermes,
was great when I complained, but even they wouldn't  take one as long as 1m 220mmx 74cm  parcel force wanted £60 without insurance Dave is  right about Y ending in L would never use them as they can't find my house  always take it to the wrong address
then e-mail me to say its been delivered  Daughter had roses for her wedding left in their warehouse for over two weeks  instead of 48 hours max.
                                Regards Howard.

Whoever you use, from experience I would not recommend Hermes or Yodel under any circumstances.  How either of them are still in business beggars belief.  I've not shipped a model before but Paisley Freight have been very good with delicate / awkward items in the past.

Sold and purchased many boats in my time and always delivered or collected in person..... perhaps expensive in fuel but at least guaranteed to have no damage.

Never a truer word spoken  :-))

Kits can be safely packaged for transport, but a finished boat is far too fragile . . . .

If it's a scale / fragile model - How much time & hassle do you want to go through when dealing with the inevitable insurance claim?

Make sure you have lots of photos of the model condition because they will bounce your claim because you will be accused of over-valuing the claim or 'it was already like that' and they will also say you did not pack it properly - so it's your fault - no payout.

You might want to take a sudden weekend holiday to Scotland.

I ended up using parcelforce and the hull got there in one piece.
Just waiting for weather to warm up to send superstructure.

The packing is more important than the courier. I would buy bag of polystyrene packing chips and use a box about 2 inches all around bigger than the superstructure. Add a 2 inch layer of poly beans, jiggle the box so that they settle out, add the superstructure, layer-jiggle, layer jiggle, etc. until the box is full.
Beans should also be able to cope with any sticky-outy bits like ladders, funnels and antenna.

1 cuft is 5 quid
5 cuft is 10 quid
15 cuft is 20 quid

I used to by tri-wall boxes from Staples. Maybe they have the chips.

If you want bomb proof, then put this box in a bigger box, with a layer of bubble wrap or something else between the two boxes.
