I've followed the instruction manual section 7.12 and set throttle to neutral but when I kill the transmitter it makes no difference.
Does anyone know something I'm missing?

On Spektrum transmitters when you change the throttle setting you then have to rebind the receiver to reset the fail safe - maybe it’s the same?

Good one Mark but I tried that too. I'm wondering if the manual covers an upgraded unit.


Or maybe the receiver needs an update, there's an update button on it but no instructions

On the original model, a long Menu press did one thing and a short menu press was "save and exit".

That's what I thought too Alan but it doesn't do anything to indicate how long. Menu press is supposed to save and Exit press leaves without saving.
Could be faulty after all I ordered a mode2 and it says this on the box but its a mode1

The  "manual"  for my Turnigy i6 transmitter says something similar and on that saving an option requires a very fast touch on the menu button.

The problem is both a long, or short press changes to the same screen afterwards.

When using the 9x I had to set channel 8 to strobe backwards and forwards, I then used this as a signal to Arduino, No change = no reception, move outputs to failsafe as set by arduino.

The i6x 10 channel  has easy set failsafe setting.

I’ve not used the 9X’s stock software in a long time, but are you perhaps plugged into the elevator channel?


Also have you set it to 0% or 50%?


From what I remember of the stock software it didn’t actually tell you it had saved anything, it just did it.

Plugged into channel 3 and set to 50% but also tried 0% as I have reverse nullified.

Found an article that suggests failsafe only works in PCM mode rather than PPM. I'll try that but isn't PCM old?

PCM was used for 35 and 40MHz sets and does not apply to 2.4GHz.

I've discovered an anomaly


I changed to a Spektrum DX6i with an Orange receiver (can't use a Spektrum receiver due to smart safe function) and throttle is connected to elevator for this.


Failsafe works but only if I switch the receiver on BEFORE connecting the batteries to the ESC's
If I have the ESC's connected and then switch the receiver on all goes "boobs" up.


The receiver is on it's own supply and the red wires on both ESC disconnected.


Anyone experienced this?

It's as though the ESC's are producing some sort of EMF that interferes with connection

You can only have one power supply to the receiver. So if you are using a stand alone battery, the red wire from a built in BEC must be disconnected.

If you have 2 power inputs, the white smoke escapes from the receiver and then there is nothing to push the electrickery around the circuit board.

Fixed it with better equipment.


Now running Spektrum DX6 with AR6600T telemetry receiver. All works as should with same settings as the DX6i in mode 1
So I can monitor battery/ temperature/ RPM too.
I bought it for the Portgarth but didn't work out so now it has a new home 


Bonus... the servos are all much smoother    11ms digital
