Looking for kit suggestions for North Sea Fishing Trawler
« on: February 05, 2018, 08:56:01 pm »

Hello,

I am thinking about building a static model of my grandfathers trawler. Any suggestions for a kit that could serve as a generic trawler that I could modify for a more scale look?

Here she is. E346 Birgit Helene out of Esbjerg, Denmark.

I don't have much in terms of photo documentation, so the build with be something resembling the actual boat.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

John

The popular Billing Nordkap kit may be suitable.

Thanks Peter,

Yes, I was looking at that boat also, but it seems to be somewhat shorter than E346. I guess I could try to extend the hull. Not sure how big of a deal that would be

Looking at the photo of E346 and comparing her with Nordkap there is a lot of similarity but, as you say, Nordkap appears to be shorter. Lengthening the hull shouldn't present too many problems as it appears that the extra length is in the mid section, so extending the keel and adding some more frames should be feasible. Other modifications would be necessary, but Nordkap would be a good starting point.

Looks like Nordkap could be the solution. Yes, the Revell kit is a bit too small.

Another option was thrown into the mix

Marignan in 1/33 scale.

Thanks!
