Just got a Royal Mail notification that my item has been posted from Germany

It will be a while before I know what charges are involved and I’ve not got an invoice for payment from Knupfer yet so I don’t know whether I’m charged VAT at their side

Probably yes . My Kaleas invoice had UK vat added

Thanks I don’t mind that as long as I’m not charged it twice  %%  in which case I won’t be paying.
I think the fact that Knupfer are using Royal Mail is a clue that they were prepared and organised.
Non of my pre brexit orders were from memory
Either dhl or dpd I think

All I know is that my order from Germany delivered yesterday was delivered by DHS  ( illegal immigrant in clapped out old Merc) it was 4 days end to end and came through the system like a nitrogenous deposit off the end of a steel shod digging instrument. I think the Germans are not phased by any new trading system , It's only customs our end who get things into a knickerous twist, or perhaps the French who like wringing our plonkers when the opportunity arises

We have used a Dualit British made toaster for over a decade. I bought this because I remember repairing them as an electrical apprentice at St James's hospital Leeds in the 70's

The wife has been nagging for a new one for ages and it just occurred too me that you can buy new elements and for that matter any Dualit parts.

So quick google found the website and I got 2 end and 2 middle elements under £40 delivered  :-))

Another 10 yrs in the net

I had to replace my trusty old Antex x25 soldering iron that I bought for about thirty bob 50 years ago
because the element has failed and they don't make replacements any more (understandably)  <:(
The new one is an Antex XS25, I splashed out on the model with the silicone cable as it makes handling so much easier.
Cost just under £32 inc delivery from CPC.
Will it last 50 years though? I definitely won't {-)

Hi Rob did you buy some exchangable bits for it?   You can do anything then, I bought a set from 1/16th upwards, they are nice irons just don't drop one and make a grab for it!

Hi Roy.
No I didn't buy any spare bits for this new iron, unlike the cheap Chinese irons Antex make bits that seem to
last quite a while. New bits are not expensive either, about £3 each for all sizes.
The standard bit it comes with is a perfect size for most PCB and even some SMT work.

Buying from Knupfer in Germany partIV

Delivered by Royal Mail just now. No request for any charges or signature.

Payment just made by bank transfer to settle invoice. Knupfer have now adopted a Paypal account for those who might struggle with IBAN's

modell@knupfer.info

Notably this was 6 days from ordering including a weekend so quicker than many outlets are managing within UK
Shipping was flat rate charge of €5.80 within EU so they have not changed that for letter under 350grams

EDIT order value was stated on outside of envelope as €37.82  that's net of postage

Tonight I experimented with buying again from Bauer-Modelle only to find that two small items triggered a shipping charge of nearly €24 by DHL. No alternatives offered.
I emailed the seller again to relate the €5.80 charged by Knupfer in Germany for packets up to 350grams by Royal Mail tracked.

How on earth they hope to trade by charging more postage than the value of tiny lightweight items it folly.

Maybe, like a number of other EU businesses they simply don't want to export to the UK following Brexit. Too much red tape. I fear we are going to see more of this now.

There was no problem with Knupfer and no red tape. So they will continue to get custom from UK. If others dont need our trade that's fine it wiil work both ways over time.

The owner of Bauer Modelle was very civil the last time I contacted him so I feel sure there will be a solution.
As they don't compete with each other he may well ask Knupfer for advice. (I hope)

One hopes so but given that the EU has been confiscating trucker's home made sandwiches as illegal food imports it might be a while before things settle down.

I've just received a reply already so we are working it out together. Software is an issue as one reason.
Will update when I know more

I wouldn't fret - having been an ex- euro driver for many years I can safely say that things will sort them selves out.  Maybe they will reinvent the TIR way of carrying goods but either way -  they have things that you want.  Nothing drives an economy more than that.  They are so used (so are we) to the CMR way of moving things but its not a show stopper.  The amount of Euro jobs I'm being offered at the moment is unreal.

Agreed and I'm sure it is as difficult for Bauer Modelle as it is for many others. I am sending him photos as requested that may help his shipping method.
Knupfer seem ahead of the game  O0  ALSO they although seeming expensive are very much cheaper than prime miniatures here and Stainless steel!! Prime only do brass and tinned at a similar price for 10 as I am paying for 25

Ordered a Trumpeter 1/200 Scharnhorst kit from Germany, it arrived yesterday by DHL, I was expecting some sort of delays or extra charges, but surprisingly didn't have any.

Good to know Brian  O0

This morning I have a reply from Bauer Modelle. The problem is mainly the basket software (English) LOL

The solution is to make an order by email for a shipping quote.

I am not sure if this helps but the new procedure only exists for values between £15 & around £150. Less than £15 does not have a problem and above £150 Approx) is still the old system.

Hopefully the shipping rates are only going to be temporary. DHL really don't want you business at the present time.

With all the trade problems that are being faced at the moment our future as a trading nation seems to have been severely compromised. We will all end up paying.

Its not an issue with DHL it is the sellers software that doesn't offer enough postal options. He is not set up for small packets and envelopes.

As Brian just said his delivery was also DHL

Another reply from Bauer
They are now trying to set up weight dependant shipping cost with DHL instead of flat rate.
They cannot do envelopes and packets as they have been suffering thefts from envelopes in the post.
Consequently now only do insured and tracked.

Over on my motorhome forum I am reading lots of posts regarding DHL and DPD parcels being returned to senders in Germany. This seems to be a mix of bad paperwork and or bad logistics in UK.
The delays are leading to DHL etal announcing no deliveries to UK until further notice.
