I have just taken a small risk in ordering 28mm jet drives from our Chinese cousins in Hong Kong.
I don't know anyone UK based who have yet reported purchasing from OceanWorks Hong Kong.
I will of course have border force charges and VAT to pay.

I will quote this post with a report when they arrive

If this goes OK I will look at ordering Schottels too

Looking forward to seeing how they do, I've got the need for 3 of that size at some point in the next few months.

Hi Martin

The Barracuda with a brushless motor and Lipo battery would  pull the skin of a rice pudding using the same prop!!!

It's quite a small motor in there, maybe a speed400.... recommendations?

NB:  I was unscrewing the top screw for 5 minutes only to realize.... eventually, the top is held down by magnets in the corners!   :embarrassed:

Hi Martin
If the motor is a 28mm with a 3.175mm shaft.
A Hobbyking Turnigy Aquastar 2842-2800kv(SKU 9357000002-0)Max Voltage 14.8(4S) max I 40amps, max watts 600.
Weight 138 grams.
ESC Hobbyking car 45A with reverse with BEC, requires program card(HK Prog-Card).
Batteries Turnigy 1500MAH (73x34x19mm) weight 83 grams each.
Unload rpm 20160.
I have a program setup for these ESCs which we use at the club.
If later you wish to upgrade, only one setting in the ESC and change to 3S batteries.
Requires a link cable between the two batteries to the ESC.

Lots of enquiries about these. I have 3 myself.
The price varies wildly and buying from China will hurt your pocket.

This is the best UK price I can find currently even if more than I paid.

Hi Taranis, what is the sound like once its placed in the hull? I am after a sound system for my next project I was thinking of the ess-air v2.0 but not sure what the vibration would be like from the 2 speakers being stuck to the hull or underside of the deck.

It’s fine in my tug Shannon and lobster boat. Adjust the volume to suit

These landed at Gatwick by DHL yesterday. I'm expecting an invoice from customs any day now

I went to my local model shop (Howes) today to get a few odds & ends. I got all the ends and odds  I needed, but somehow also bought a Caldercraft Milford Star kit. That should keep me busy next winter!

Every time I go to Howes, admittedly not that often, I seem to come away with another model as well as the battery I went there for...

A King Dick 26mm crows foot socket/spanner, but was to small and have had to order a 28mm one instead.

Currently replacing the AC on the Jag (a steep learning curve) and need it to remove one of the hoses between the back of the engine and bulkhead.

The jet drives arrived yesterday handed over by Royal Mail. I’ve not been charged any extras.
The quality is excellent but I was surprised by how small the nozzles are in relation to the 28mm impellers.
Having friended Victor on Facebook he is already making bigger nozzles and will send me those when ready.
These will be 20mm across same as Speedline but with a much more authentic looking reverse bucket.

Initially I can tell that the bronze impellers made by Protean for the Kehrer drives will fit the OceanWorks

So far this week, I have bought 4 receivers (ordered, not yet received), the Milford Star kit reported above, knife blades, plywood, glue and a prop. Then I took my daughter to Black Park. I put a boat (Billings Samson) in the car as we used to enjoy sailing together when she was about 6 (25 years ago). Before we left her mum's house, she pulled out the Billings Cadet we had made together all those years ago. Surprisingly intact, even the Bob's Board looked OK. It was still shockingly pink, though! I brought it home to renovate and she will sail it again. Once at Black Park, we sailed the Samson among good company, one of whom offered me a Billings Boulogne Etaples, well built, with motor, ESC and rudder servo for a price I couldn't refuse, so I didn't! I should have that one the water soon as well. I'll try not to buy anything else this week!

Hi all, I bought (with club money) another set of batteries for our 5 inch gauge electric loco.  These were fitted yesterday and the loco was doing trips around the track with passengers following a live steam 3 1/2 inch gauge loco until it got dark.  Lovely evening at our Puffing Park with with wives and families etc.
The outline diesel loco uses 2 off 12 volt 33 Ah batteries wired for 24 volts and pulls like a good 'un.  It is good for teaching drivers how to drive etc without the additional hassel of managing a steam engine.
