RN pattern stanchions
« on: March 08, 2018, 02:35:41 am »

Hello
I have two 1:48 scale boats that I am building - Castle Class and Bulldog class (survey vessel). I shall soon require RN type stanchions where the spacing is a little different to standard types.

Does anyone know where I can acquire some. I would prefer round brass but if someone has 3d printed I could beer interested.

I bought from Modelling Timbers just before he closed down some 300 in 1:96 for my Fearless Class vessel. Alas he had none in 1:48.

I read that other members have built models in 1:48 and would like to know from where you acquired your RN type stanchions.

As an observation the spacing varied depending on the age of the vessel. For example Battleships in WW1 had equal spacing whereas I recall new Battleships in WW2 had unequal spacing. So Warspite in WW2 had equal spacing due to her age but a KGV may well have had unequal spacing.

Only photographs will really confirm.

I did purchase some 1/48 scale railings but am struggling to recall the source. Deans Marine may be a good bet!

Cheers

Yes it is a shame that Keith is retiring because his service and character are first class. Never a problem and always helpful and obliging.

I will enquire at DM but likely such would be flat etched.

John Haynes also does a range of stanchions and may do 1/48 scale but yes they are flat photo etched but when painted the paint created a semi rounded effect - they look good.

Gingyer you just beat me to it - I wonder if the search function on this site still works - cos nobody seems to be able to use it now.

Hello

Thank you for being the search engine!

I have tried to search but presume that the criterion I searched with was not acceptable to the website. I have not seen this.
Thanks

Thank you!

I 'phoned JL and had an interesting conversation.
He may be able to make some in about one month's time but no longer is he going to continue on a business footing.

Hello VilleH,

Thank you for the link.  Very interesting and a new one to me.

The stanchions look good too, although I do not think that they have the RN style spacing.
Anyhow they have other interesting things
