Planking is proceeding.
The ink is bleeding a little.(but the original caulk was  Tar and oakum)

So far so good.

Following on Jim  %)  ............ & a few questions if I may.....

1. are you using twine or a braided wire for the steering?
2. are you utilizing a number of Jins brass, 4 mm shaft [diameter] toothed pulleys in the drive?
3. are these turn-buckles to take up slackness?

[amazing what he produces.....obviously he will sell individual components ?]

Derek,
1. It is a twine.  I could not find a flexible enough wire braid, although I may change to chain if there is a problem.
2. The pulleys I got from my favorite RBModels in Poland.   I have not seen Jin's version.
3. They are hand made "shock absorbers" - Two pieces of still brass wire with an eye at one end, bent to overlap and compress a spring.    All from the junk drawer.
Thanks,Jim

check in the beading section of craft stores they my have some more flexy cable,, another option is kevlar,, I have a spool of kevlar thread that i use in fly-tying .. it came with a warning about attempting to break it with your fingers,, easy enough to run some in a rope walk to give a thicker version..

Finally the decks are planked.
Next comes the finish coats.
As to the use of the marker as "caulk"

Not as good as I would have liked. It bled from the CA glue.
It is a good thing that the real caulk was Oakum and Pitch.
A little more sanding . . .
Thanks for reading,Jim

Looks great Jim - what are you going to use to seal and finish the decks?  Finishing epoxy?

I have always been a fan of a good varnish.
I like the penetration and sealing that it provides.
I used to heat it to make it penetrate better.

Then I moved my shop in doors and the rest of the family objected to all the VOC's.So I switched to a LOW VOC polyurethane - satin, with light sanding between coats, appliedwith a brush first and then a soft cloth.
I have not thought of an epoxy -  When you say "Finishing Epoxy" - can you give me an example of one?I'll look it up.
Thanks,Jim

Hi Jim - this is the sort of thing

https://www.bucks-composites.com/products/bucks-finishing-epoxy-resin-with-hardener-24-36-hour-cure-time

Have a read up on it as it’s very tough and low odour too. It’s usuall applied with an extremely fine cloth which pretty much goes invisible once the resin is on. If you phone Bucks they are very helpful. Mind you try it on something other than your boat first

Time for the bulwarks.
I used a small engineers square to give a point of referencefor the stern.  It helped to find the correct position.
Also started to position the side bulwarks.

Secured the bulwarks,Now adding stiffeners to the sides.
1. Drill small hole at the edge of the deck.
2. Epoxy the brass rods (3/64 in Dia) in place.    At the same time I applied a small amount of    epoxy thru a syringe and needle to "caulk" the seam.
3. The finished look up close.
4. The full side is done.
Other side tomorrow.

Marvon Models in it's day was very good and you are most fortunate to find a kit made by them, I built the North Sea Drifter which was one of their kits and it was a really good looking boat. if you would like to see a few more photographs of the Chimaera, google John Hemmings Steam Engineer, and you will realise what a bargain you have, as his kit costs £1,850.00 well  over $2,000. I am very much into steam and plank on frame boats, but have finally come to terms with the fact it is so much simpler to install into a fibre-glass hull. Your steam plant really looks the business, the engine is not a TVR is it. Regards, Gary.

Sorry to all to have dropped off the side of the world!
I took some time to go to Greece for a while, and then came back home to have my right shoulder re-built.It is healing, but at 8 weeks I am only now getting use of my right arm and hand back.
It is now sailing season, so I will put this build on the shelf for a rainy day, and go play in the pond.
To answer Gary's question from last march, the engine is one of Jin's (Microcosm) I do not know the number,
he has so many.  I bought it thru EBAY about 3 years ago.  Run's great.  I have had it in a couple of boats.
Regards to all,See you in the Fall.

Thanks for the good wishes.I had a skilled surgeon, all is fixed - just going thru the rehab part now.
Bernard,Yes - that is the engine.  It is a good little workhorse.
I am also building a Stuart Compound Twin that eventually go in this hull
(if it fits)

Later,Jim

I'M BACK.
As a matter of fact, I have been busy.
It looks like my thread is missing some of the pictures,
not sure what to do about that.
After last springs operation on my shoulder, it took a while to get back to building. After the boating season ended, I brought everything into my shop, and spent the winterfinishing up the build.

Here is a picture of the final result:

Bonjour James,
And the videos  ok2  ? As subscriber to your channel, I have already seen them and they highlight this beautiful boat.
Besides this, what happens to your D10 ?

Bonjour Raphael,
Thank you for your kind comments.
FYI - My D10  is happy in the GreyHounds Revenge - The large open workboat that I
use as my Test Hull -   I recently added a Feedwater system that I hope to be able to test soon.
More to come -

Here are some more details of the results.
I had a lot of fun with the "fiddley bits"
Details that make it nice to look at as well as sail.
So here is a tour:

Bonjour James,
Could you remind us the scale of the boat and where you found he crew please ?
And do you think they should be confined on their boat ?  ok2
