It continues to be a super job David. You'll be making the hull next just to get the job completed  :}

made some more progress fitted all the lockers ,liferafts etc , the 3d printed fittings are much better than the
white metal ones such as the 20mm guns from 3d boats on the shapeways website
made the rear structure under the funnel and made a start on the main mast this was always going to be a challenge

really impressive. If my build (HMS Exeter again in 1/96) comes out half as good as this I'll be over the moon.  Can I ask a couple of questions on where you got a couple of bits as I'm struggling to find them.  Namely the ships crest in on the front of the super structure, The wood name plates on the side and the brass stantions, I'm struggling with the white metal ones as the are too flimsy. Lastly does anyone know where I can get the scale lettering for the ships name at the stern?

My build has been on hold for 7 years, I'm now back on it but may strip it back to bare bones as there's bits I'm not happy with and I cant remember all that I learnt from people on various forums.

Hello thanks for your comments, the ships crest
I made this from plastic card and painted it
The ships name is 1.5mm etched brass letters
From accurate armour stuck on a small piece
Of veneer
The stantions where from John Haynes fine
Model ships , they also sell these at scale warships . Com

Im not sure how they are for 1/96 scale but people tend to use small lettering for oo gauge model railways for ship's name on the stern sides.

hi Chris here is the hull with George siteks running gear , when I have completed the forward structures and mast I will start the hull , looks like it will want a lot of internal bulkheads to pull it into the correct shape
and width , there is a lot of work to do on the hull there is no anchor recess , all the  stabilizer's need to be
made and fitted to

Lovely detail and effort on finish. Is the funnel a foam resin casting? If so, that is a great application of materials. You get a big solid casting with detail but at minimal weight. Whoever thought that one up is a lifesaver  :-)) :-))

Has anyone got any good tips on getting the correct angle and curve on the front of type 42 superstructure, I'm having difficulty in getting it to right and decent.  I'm building the Exeter its been 8 years in the making but with work its hard to find the time, but as Im recovering from a stroke its given me the opportunity to get back on it.

I built the front of the s/s as a separate unit using the upper and lower curves from the Jecobin plans as templates to get the angle and curve. I first used card to get the shape of the curved font. A few pictures will hopefully explain better.

What thickness was the styrene, 1.5mm? Thats the thickness I've been using and I found it really hard to get it to bend around the corners tightly  while looking symmetrical, I thought about using 2 layers of .76mm sheet but thought there must be an easier way.

The pictures have been a great help, thanks :-))

The styrene bent around the front was 1mm and I seem to remember I used a hair dryer to soften it slightly. You have to get it just right or it goes too soft. The supports were 1.5 or 2mm.

Thanks you have been most helpful, I just need to work out the best way on how fill out 1/2mm difference between the s/s side walls and the front.  Ill give it a go later when the wife goes out so she doesnt see me using her hair dryer {-) {-)

Try 'pulling' the styrene over the curved edge of a worktop. This will help bend the plasticard. Obviously this is more difficult with a small piece of card so you may need to use a larger piece than required and cut down.
You can also wrap the card round the superstructure overlapping that on the sides then make a 90 degree cut through both pieces to get a straight edge. then use fine filler to hide the joint.

Sorry to be a pain but the more I look at your excellent build the more detail I find and Id like to put onto my build of the Exeter, so can I ask where you got the following items from

The resin speakers (I've got white metal ones and I need some more) or did make moulds and cast your own
The main radar (again I have the one from Sirmar) but I would like to get my hands on a complete photo etched version, but can only find them in 1/72 scale
The range and array of ladders, I'm struggling to find them including the companion ladder on the quarter deck.
The Most impressive thing is the hoses in the basket, I've been fretting on how I was going to to do them or even find them on line.
