Battery Holders

(1/1)

ajb63:
Hi
My first build a 1/16 Tamar . Before I start  building the battery holders for my Lipos , do the trays require any form of packing around them such as PC foam mouse pads or similar . Or are the trays made a snug fit on battery size. Thanks for any comments.

Hi Alan, when i build battery boxes, consider the cases, SLA batteries are a hard case so i fit them tight, NimH batteries are a soft case but hard cells, i fit these tight as well, Lipo batteries are delicate, soft cases and softish cells, protect the inside of the boxes, i line the boxes with foam paper type then cover with sticky back velvet like fablon, this gives a firm but soft hold to the cell packs.

Hope this helps

I use plenty of lipos, mostly in aircraft but some in boats. I have never fitted a battery box with padding or not. Fit a flat ply plate and hold the battery down with velcro straps. I often fit a small piece of velcro under the battery to stop it sliding. While the lipo may have a soft case once held in place it can't move around and velcro straps are soft so won't damage the pack. If you are so concerned about protecting the pack use lipos intended for buggies, these are hard cased.

Good point Jim, forgot about hard cases

In a thread on another forum that was discussing an on-board LiPo fire, the suggestion was made to mount the LiPo in a charging bag.
