Narrow boat motor
« on: April 02, 2018, 12:09:23 pm »

Hi all, I am just getting my first electric powered model ready for the water. It is a secondhand narrow boat 38" long
It has come with a motor, shaf,t and prop (3 blade 35mm) fitted . The motor is HRS 5406 12v which I think is called a 500 size brushed motor.
There is no speed controller or battery. The battery box seems to fit the size of a 6v lead acid battery but not a 12v battery.
My question is will a 6v battery work with this motor bearing in mind scale speed will be slow. Should I be using some other sort of battery other than a lead acid? I think I will fit a second 4.8v battery for the RX.
Lastly what component do I have to solder across the connections to prevent static interference?
Thanks Regards

Thanks for the info.
I think I can fit 2 identical 6v lead acid batteries in the box provided. I can then use them in parallel at 6v. If that is not satisfactory I can try them in series at 12v. I don,t think I will need a separate RX battery as my new speed controller can supply the RX I think so I will order the parts today.

Regards.
