Hi Everyone,
Thanks for accepting me on here.
I'm a boat builder/engineer by trade and have also built a few models, but never radio controlled anything.
A little project I've been weekending on with my 5 year old son is a 1 metre model of an Ocean Rowing Boat (ORB) that I build for my day job. On doing a bit of research on the interweb I stumbled across this forum and thought it might be good to share pics with you of what I'm up to. Perhaps you would be so kind to let me know if I'm doing anything daft!
My plan is to fit a water jet drive in the centre of the hull and run a tube through the hull to just in front of the skeg/rudder arrangement. I'm not worried about not being able to reverse
I'm also going to run small tubes to take the rudder control lines (or rods?!) through to the central deck area so I can concentrate all the weight here and then just have one large waterproof access hatch to fit/replace all of the kit.
As per standard ORB designs it will self right so should be good for going out in some fairly choppy conditions. You can probably tell, I'm quite keen to test this!
Anyway I don't have much idea of what kit would do the job and any pointers in this respect would be gratefully received!
By my roughish calculations I need about 50w of power to push it along at 3.5kts. I guess the rudder servo will need to be fairly robust as well but again, I don't really know where to start!
I've tried to upload a pic but can't seem to work out how to do it. Is it possible?
I hope this is of interest!
Thanks,
Justin
