Looking for CalderCraft Peggy steam drifter kit?
« on: July 23, 2017, 02:03:50 pm »

I would really like to get hold of a Calder Craft Peggy steam drifter kit and was hoping someone on here may have an unused one willing to sell or know of a website or model shop with one still in stock. I think they went out of production about 8 years ago in the U.K. Maybe less long ago in USA.

I only just realised this model existed and it has great personal meaning to me as my great grandfather was the skipper of the original Peggy PHD149 in Peterhead and the family have only just realised the company took the boat to base a model on! Would it be worth contacting the company do you think as this may be an interesting story for them? I have original photos of the boat so intend to build it ad close as possible to the original. The ones I have seen so far have the wrong colour scheme on the decking but are close to the original design.

Any help or advice appreciated. I may consider a fully built model but really would prefer to have a go at building myself. This would be my first model boat build. I am based in aberdeen in Scotland.

Thanks

Always worth asking again but the lack of response suggests you are going to be unlucky. Console yourself with the thought that a Caldercraft kit is quite a tall order for a first build. (Unless you build other models and this is just your first boat.)

It's always worth keeping an eye on Ebay as kits sometimes come up there. Good luck.

Hi

If she was a wooden built steam drifter you might enjoy " From Tree to Sea by Ted Frost "
A beautifully written / illustrated book by a guy who served his apprenticeship build the wooden steam drifters

Looking around a hardback version is around the £100 mark. There is also a soft cover version usually available for a lot less. Needless to say both books are out of print.

Not the Calder craft Peggy.
The OP gave his reasons for wanting
a model of Peggy in his first post.
