Metinda III Tug
« on: April 25, 2018, 10:03:34 pm »

Had a model years ago of the METINDA III tug she was a EX Empire Jean Rosa WW2 modified Englishman/larch class of Tug doing research on her she was from what I can figure out a large class of the Empire class 137.1X33.1X15.1 feet 593 GRT the standard Empire Jane was a much smaller type of tug, worked on the old empire Jane Taimoa ex Union Steam ship Tug 102.2X27.1X11.7 232GRT.
I thought the Empire tugs were all the same size seems to be a few different class of WW2 Empire tugs found the Metinda III to be a classic tug great looking ship would like to build her again in a 1/24 or bigger scale tassie48

That does look quite different from the other Empires. 33% bigger as well.
The Taioma and Tapuhi were a bit more no frills/workman-like than the Metinda. Looks like they cut the design budget for the Taioma bridge and superstructure.

Hi Tassie the big one is 1/32nd scale and the little one is 1/96th scale.
My Dad was Engineer on her for 4 years that is him in the picture standing on her foredeck, she was coming out of Sydney Harbour in 1947 Towing the Ex Interstate liner Canberra to Genoa in northern Italy , the tow took four and a half months

Hi Spud as far as I an aware, nobody makes an Englishman class hull, but I have a build thread on Model tug Forum for Rumania, I used an old Mountfleet empire Ivy hull with a lot of surgery for mine .the build log is under the steam tug section headed building a Rumania from an empire ivy build.
